Is it unusual for a Canadian to be more fascinated...

No. I pay way more attention to American politics, mainly because Swedish politics is so fucking boring.
 
I think American politicians are very well behaved and professional while in session. I'm not kidding.
You see the way politicians in Asia act (punching, pulling hair, throwing food) and it's very embarrassing. That's in session I mean...many are also corrupt outside of the halls of government.

You don't pay much attention to what they do when they're not in Washington then.
True, but I meant they there is a certain decorum that should be followed when conducting oneself while the parliament/senate whtever is in session.
In the US, Canada UK and many others this is followed...I'd be happy to hear about times it wsn't. But I've seen stuff on the Taiwan news that makes me want to head down there and push some people around. And it's be OK if I did it because at least I'm not an elected official!;)
