which MANY on this board have stated in the same way
I sort of like this idea that Trek was for "Joe Sixpack" and that 'Cerebral' people wouldn't enjoy it. I spend all day writing highly complex papers which will be read by about 200 people (if I'm lucky) and before that I wrote a PhD that was so 'cerebral' it sends me to sleep, let alone anyone else reading it. I'm quite happy to be 'Joe Sixpack' at the cinema, I go to be entertained.
Trek 2 - bring on the action!
I would love that, but seeing as how all films these days are only meant for Joe-Sixpack, I highly doubt it.

Oh, how I long for another TMP.......and yes, I enjoyed that one, so![]()
So I'd like to see plenty of action in the next film, even if it means the scene where they sit around the conference table debating over whether to save the Andorian ambassador ends up on the cutting-room floor.
TMP is like a feast for my mind, and Trek 09 is fast food for my mind.
I've never found TMP particularly insightful or deep. Just a bit pretentious. I tend to lose interest with it right around after Spock shows up on the Enterprise. On more than a few occasions I've even and a fellow Trekker friend of mine have dosed off while watching it. This didn't ever occur with any of the other films or TOS.
If "NuTrek" if fast food I'll eat more of it.

Although I like TMP, I agree that it's pretentious film, not a smart one. The living machine V'ger, with almost unlimited power and ability, never even thought to wipe the muck off it's nameplate.

Marshak & Culbreath are already working on the novelization of that. It's called Reach Around of the Phoenix.
I have no problem with product placement so long as it doesn't take me out of the movie. And considering the fact that there are still a few companies and products around today that date back to the 1800's I have no problem believing that Nokia and Budweiser will still be with us in the 23rd century.I should add my fellow Trekker friend also hates Trek 09... he's got a hang up with product placement and for reasons I can't fathom totally can't handle "action".
Once he saw the Nokia it was all over.
I mean when I go to a "Summer blockbuster" I sort of assume it will have "action".
Though he has commented that TMP "Needs aliens". I'm not sure what he means by that exactly.

It doesn't make sense that Budweiser survived however.
