You would have Trek sealed in amber and stuck in the 1960s.
Not in the 60's but the 90's when Star Trek was great!
Show business is just that ... a BUSINESS.
Money is an issue in our world.
That might be true.
But if you want to make money, don't insult those you are selling the product to.
Why must characters necessarily be "likable"?
Think about characters like Tony Soprano or Walter White (Breaking Bad). What about Dirty Harry or Travis Bickle (Taxi Driver)?
Dark and complicated can be a GOOD thing.
Because if characters are likeable, people will watch the show, If not, they abandon it.
Some characters can be likable in a way, even if they aren't nice. One of my absolute favorites is Garak. He can definitely be described as "complicated".
Other characters I like are Gowron, Quark and Q. Not to mention Aamin Marritza.
I actually like Dukat as a villain.
And I really like Dirty Harry! Clint Eastwood is one of my absolute favorite actors!
The problem is bland and boring characters combined with bad stories. That's not what I call "likeable".
I wasn't crazy about NCIS: Hawai'i, either. It struck me as Amortization Theater (CBS was trying to reuse the sets it had left over from Alex Kurtzman's Hawai'i Five-O).
The only thing that was different was the setting. The characters were cliches.
"Cliches" is an understatement, NCIS Hawaii is one of the worst series I've ever seen. Can be compared with DSC and Stargate Universe.
But I liked Hawaii 5-0. Good characters and good stories.
If you honestly believe that that is what is going here, you truly are living very much in your own world. And that is sad indeed.
If it makes you feel better, I am not wasting any more energy on what you think is a debate. If you wish to see that as a victory on your behalf, please, by all means. More power to you. I'm going to use my time to talk and actually debate with people who are open minded. Enjoy your day.
So it's sad to have an own opinion and to stand up for it?
And I would be pleased if yo would fulfil your promise and not waste any of your precious energy on me and instead debate with those who think like you.
It's equally sad when someone can't see that how they act leads directly to how people react to them. One of the reasons people get so frustrated with you is that you repeat the same thing over and over and over.
Maybe you should give that some thought.
As for the rest, it's like arguing about whether broccoli tastes good or not. It's all subjective. There's no right or wrong, there's no objective standards that one can logically argue for. It's simply a matter of taste to the individual, and degrees of agreement.
Now I think it would be smashing if
everyone could move on from the personal commentary.

I think that your commentary about "moving on from personal commentary" is right.
But it seems to be directed at the wrong person in this case.
OK, I might repeat things from time to time. Maybe I shouldn't?
But at least I try to debate the subject of the thread and avoid making it personal as much as possible.
