Or consider a hybrid approach, hinted at by TOS and TNG. Some stories told as stand alone episodes. Other stories told as two-parters, or even three-parters. Old Dr. Who, I believe, did something similar.Probably one of the bigger variables we can consider is serial vs episodic.
