Is it me or did the gateroom at Stargate Command seem to get smaller?

This is something that has kind of nagged at my subconscious for awhile now. It might just be my imagination but it seems to me the sets of Stargate Command changed somewhat over time. I don't know why but they begin to feel more unrealsitc with each passing season.

The Gateroom is the most ovious example to me. I use to think the room was pretty big in the early seasons and the glass windown area were the gate techincians worked was up much higher from the ground than it was in the later seasons. It might have something to do with them from switching from film to digital. Maybe the sets weren't detailed enough to handle that transition. Then there is the fact that I think the lighting changed over the years. They use to be darker lit like "Battlestar Galatica" and the first two seasons of Ds9. I don't know why they would change this. Usually this type of lighting I feel helps make a show look better and it hides any imperfections or fakeness about a set.

It's really easy to forget that the Stargate is huge! About 2 stories tall. That doesn't come across a lot of the time due to the way they shoot it. So when you do get a better idea of its scale, it's very shocking.

They don't properly capture the scale on the series very well, although they did in the film.

Transitioning from film to digital wouldn't be a problem if the sets weren't detailed enough--digital has far less the resolution than even 16mm film (which the first few seasons were shot at, before they switched to 35mm, until finally settling on HD).

Maybe you're just getting bigger.

It might have something to do with the fact that it's no longer a permanent set, and it did look smaller during its appearances in Atlantis's last two seasons. It felt especially bad during the season finale, like they'd only set up the briefing room set. Shep and Carter could easily have been greenscreened into the the brief shots of the Gate and control room using stock footage.

It's that coat of paint they slapped on after "Foothold". Makes the whole damn room feel smaller. :p

The gateroom is/was a permanent standing set...it was never taken down after SG1 concluded. It has been redressed for multiple appearances as the secret base that starts off Universe.
But I do have to agree, the set once looked enormous, now it looked soooo tiny. The last I can pinpoint how large it felt was the s3 cliffhanger, where the team is standing in the briefing room window as we pan out from them. :wtf:
