Is it just me...

... or would anyone else like to see the Enterprise from TMP replace the CGI TOS Enterprise in the show?

Would it be too jarring?
I've never been a huge fan of the series model but the movie version is still my favorite visually speaking.

Yes, it's just you.
;)

Just you, I'm afraid.

That would be like "fixing" the original KING KONG by replacing Willis O'Brian's stop-motion special effects with CGI . . ..

The TOS Enterprise has already been replaced with CGI...it's more like if they changed Kong's species to boot.

Nearly every Starfleet ship since springs from that design.
This, but I'd take out the "nearly". The entire Trek ship design ethos comes from that design, which was very unconventional for its time.

Why would they change the outward appearance of the ship but leave the interiors the same? Or are you implying that they digitally erase the bridge, all the corridors, engineering, quarters, etc. as well as the outward appearance for every episode? That would cost a ridiculous amount of money, not to mention the absurdity of it.

No. And jarring is not the word for it....

How about CGI-ing Jessica Lange on top of Fay Wray? Is it just me, or would that be a Really Bad idea?

If they changed the designs to TMP, then Kirk's being unfamiliar with the redesign would make no sense.

Ignoring the drastic change to the outer design, how would you go about changing all the interior shots?

Every scene in sickbay, engineering, the shuttle bay live action sequences, it couldn't be done.

No remastering is going to move away from using the original Connie, or it's pilot configurations when needed.

I was giving myself wiggle room for DS9's Defiant.

I thought about that, but even that ship, as much of a departure as its basic configuration is, has plenty of business that's recognizable as belonging to the 24th century design ethos established by the Ent-D...which in turn is very recognizably descended from the 1701.

This too, now that you mention it!

The TMP Enterprise is my favourite but the TOS design is so iconic and has so many fans, she has to stay. If you want to replace the NuPrise though, go right ahead. ;P

Your best shot at getting your wish (Unless you are a CGI Jedi yourself) is to find the "Going boldly" vignette created by the NewVoyages team (At the time NewVoyages/Phase II team)

The premise (at the time of production several years back) was either that there was a scheduled refit to test new engines or there had been a battle and there was a need for new engines. All leading up to a new Phase II series.

The star of the CGI show- Coming out of Space Dock- There you have it- Matt Jeffries' new engine design... in the old series. For what you're looking for- never mind the setup dialogue. Scrub ahead in the video and start at the point where you hear Mr. Scott say - "Phase 1 complete."

As sacrosanct as the TOS Enterprise is for many fans, JJ immediately decided to change it. He used the idea of the alternate timeline to justify it, but it's a very noticeable change, inside and out, including a TMP like saucer.

I agree that the TMP Enterprise was a distinct improvement over the TOS design. Of the three, TOS/TMP/NuTOS, the original TOS Enterprise comes in dead last.

JJ has nothing to do with this discussion. This is about changing the TOS Enterprise in TOS Remastered into the TMP Enterprise. Please leave your Abrams butthurt rage in the nuTrek forum.
