Is it just me, or is your expectation of XI rising & rising?

Re: Is it just me, or is your expectation of XI rising & ris

The only thing I have against the movie at this point is that I have to wait a year to see it! All the casting so far has been great. I haven't seen Yelchin or Saldana (except for her role in The Terminal) before, but I really like Quinto, Pegg, and Cho. Those three are going to bring in a big chunk of the 18-25 age group (of which I'm a part). Ask any 21 year-old dork who Simon Pegg is and they could probably tell you, and quote lines to boot. I only have one other friend who watches any Trek, but I'm sure the rest of them will take another look now.

ZZYFRX, you're the one that's a turd...

Awww, come on. Do you really have to get nasty over an opinion--albeit a somewhat incendiary one--on a movie none of us has even seen yet?

The cast thus far is completely awful on every level with not a single charismatic actor in the bunch except for Pegg, and although he's a good actor he's just been woefully miscast.
What did they ever do to you? Seriously ;)

Did Nimoy really say he liked the script or also that he didn't understand it, which I think is more accurate, and which only means two things - alot of explosions and alot of meaningless dialogue.

Re: Is it just me, or is your expectation of XI rising & ris

He's stated on multiple occasions that he loved the script, which is why he agreed to do it.

Re: Is it just me, or is your expectation of XI rising & ris

He also stated he didn't understand it, which leads me to those conclusions.

Link please?

well so far, nearly all the news has been good, but that said, we dont have the new Kirk yet, and until that happens I dont really want to commit either way.

I believe he said he doesn't understand most contemporary films and tv shows. He wasn't talking about the Star Trek XI script.

Re: Is it just me, or is your expectation of XI rising & ris

^ Yeah that's what I gathered from it too. Do you really think he would be in a movie that he didn't understand? Come on now.

Several of the "Deadwood" actors said they would say certain lines 20 or 30 times before they got them right, and even then they had no idea what they just said.

Re: Is it just me, or is your expectation of XI rising & ris

Yeah, but the Deadwood actors weren't semi-retired millionaires notoriously picky and critical (Generations) of the projects they'd do.

Anyway, as much as I like Nimoy as an actor, I have little faith in him as a judge of good stories (he was right about Generations being a bad one, though). TSFS was fair at best and TVH is redeemed from being the worst Trek film of all in my book only by how howlingly awful TFF and how eye-bleedingly boring GEN were. If "the Spock character," as Nimoy likes to call him, gets enough attention, Nimoy will call it great. After all, Nimoy did "Reunification Part II." As Marvel Comics used to say (still do?), 'nuff said.

How do you know. He'll support and like anything that pays him millions of dollars. Now who wouldn't ?

Wrong. TPTB wanted him in "GENERATIONS" but he didn't feel that it was a role that only Spock could do. They were gonna pay him money along with all the other actors, but he declined to do it. So, he does have restraint and won't just take the big bucks if they are offered. It is widely known that he is very picky when it comes to scripts/treatments. Besides, he went out of his way (and even interrupted J.J. Abrams) at Comic-Con to tell the crowd how awesome the script was. He wouldn't have done that if he didn't feel it was true. I doubt he would blurt that out, just for the hell of it. He was very passionate about letting the audience know that the script was awesome, and he even said that he doesn't say things like that lightly. I know - I was there ;)

So far I'm loosing hope for this movie. I don't like who they have chosen for Scotty, Sulu and Chekov, nor do I think the winter opening will help bring in non-trek fans. Who's not already a ST fan is gonna drag their asses out of their house to the theater in inches of snow and freezing weather?

They did that on purpose, to make the Iceland scenes feel more realistic.

Re: Is it just me, or is your expectation of XI rising & ris

Everyone knows that winter is hibernation season. How can people be expected to leave their homes??

Re: Is it just me, or is your expectation of XI rising & ris

A winter opening killed the first LOTR and they had to release the sequels direct to DVD with production sketches serving in place of special effects.
