Is Ghostbuster 3 in danger

I agree, but I said the same thing about IJ4.

I actually hope they don't make one, but you know they will at some point, so might as well get it over with.

I kind of hope that they do get someone other than Ivan Reitman. He really is past his prime, and his last attempt to do something remotely like Ghostbusters (namely Evolution) was an abysmal failure. In fact, I can't think of a single movie he's directed since around 1990 that I enjoyed even a little.

Let him produce, but give the reins to someone who's proven they can make a decent movie in this day and age. :)

I loved Evolution myself, but do agree he is past his prime. I won't count him out if he's the guy, but someone else might be better.

I do think this film is happening, though.

Evolution did have a certain charm and I certainly wouldn't say it was crap but yeah, Reitman has unfortunately been unable to recapture the quality he attained back in the 80s. Still, who's to say GB3 won't be a return to form?

But...but...Kindergarten Cop? :p

Looking at his IMDB resume, I wouldn't say Reitman was much of a giant in any decade. His two best films are probably Ghostbusters and Dave. But he's never been that prolific, anyway. He's only directed 16 feature films in almost 40 years in the business.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Sony wants more than a young director. They want to make a movie called Ghostbusters without a III in the title, probably with Seth Rogan as Ray, Justin Long as Peter, Jay Baruchel as Egon, Megan Fox as Dana and replacing Stay Puft with something more crossover marketable -- like a 75-foot tall Ratchet and Clank.

Best case scenario is they get Jason Reitman and Ivan produces.

Zack Galafinakis as the stoner ghostbuster

"Dude who was thinking of a 100 foot bag of Onion rings!!"

I bet the studio wants a complete reboot, with little or no original actors. Isn't the story rumored to be a passing the torch one? Or is it like the game where they get a couple of rookie Ghostbusters?

What they have to do is go back to basics. Have Dana's son Oscar be haunted by an evil spirit, he works with the boys in Grey to solve the problem. One down. Janine and Luis' daughter joins the team as a new recruit. She's smarter than Egon, and they often are at odds on a situation. This causes laughs between Ray and Peter. Eventually they come to an em pass. By the end of the movie Oscar joins the team. Winston is headlining his own franchise in LA. Both teams eventually come together to join Egon & co. to face the main threat. That could be up to 8 Ghostbusters! Character problem solved! Now, what would the villain be?

Oooh, one more thing! The after credits ending. Paris. A ghost starts some stuff at the Eiffel Tower. Screams, and mayhem rage! The main theme starts as you see a familiar yet different vehicle pull up to the tower entrance. Four figures walk out sporting Ghostbusters uniforms. They give us familiar lines in French, and the movie ends! Now you know the GB franchise is global, and ideas for future movies are endless.

But none of that will happen because all have to sign off on it.

I wonder how many franchises of this era were similarly contracted for all prime players to sign off on further installments?

I suspect the only other director Ivan Reitman would consider for this would be his own son Jason. Whom is a very talented director. Though with a very different style than his father.

And they'd better do so: Bill Murray doesn't seem to care about Ghostbusters that much anymore and is possibly out of shape to even be playing Peter, as are all of the others. And Sigourney Weaver is in her 60's at this point. Replacing Stay Puft with Ratchet & Clank? Not a good idea.

I haven't seen Juno or Up in the Air. However, Thank You for Smoking is one of the sharpest comedies I've seen in years. I could go for Jason Reitman directing.

Another director I would suggest is Edgar Wright, the guy who did Hot Fuzz & Shaun of the Dead.

He didn't seem to mind reprising the role in Zombieland.

Maybe he's bored with the Ghostbusters franchise and wants out?

Especially since Sigourney said recently that he would be a ghost according to what she was told.

^
Murray himself confirmed that on a recent David Letterman appearance. He also stated that he really enjoyed working on the video game last year.
