Is episode "The Void" Possibly one of the best ever voyager episodes.

I watched it yesterday and was thinking how utterly fantastic the episode is, it has everything, for a good episode.

I wonder what YOU think?

If you don't agree please share your view of the best episodes.:vulcan:

Before the rest of us reply, please tell us why YOU liked it (I did too, so I'm not planning on an argument ;)).

I definitely liked the episode, and how they tried to uphold their morals even in such a dire situation, and formed their own alliance built on mutual cooperation, but I don't consider it one of my favourite episodes of Voyager.

It was a lame ripoff of the derivative but clever game Elite Force, which should totally have gotten a multi-episode arc of its own. There's no sense of danger, no compelling drama, no lasting effects on the crew.

I agree that may be why I enjoyed the episode so much, I also like the aliens, and joint coopaeration of all, the differant species.

Funny... the first friendly alien they encounter looks like a cross between a Cardassian and a native American Indian. :)

..and the reused "Hunter of the Tosk" uniforms they wore.

No I wasn't a fan of the ep., found it kinda dull actually.

^ true, that. :)

I enjoyed the episode, overall... intriguing idea. But I found this attitude of Janeway to be extremist. I can understand her being unwilling to accept ill gotten gains, but giving up that polaron modulator was allowing the alien to keep his prize. I would have kept it and just kicked them out. True, they eventually escape the void, but it was on such a very thin tenuous thread... like many Voyager episodes, unfortunately. But that's the price you pay for entertainment. ;)

What was really pathetic was this idea of a species "evolving" within the void. Um, species just don't magically come into being on ships. If anything it would mean a seriously long time for any species to be in that void. Given how there are no renewable resources and that supplies can only be taken by vessels entering the void, it's just nonsense that any ship could survive for very long, let alone thousands of years.

My version of it would have a race of beings that managed to stay alive by eluding sensor scans and moving about via transporter beams from ship to ship. Once aboard Voyager, the crew would be able to communicate with them (the "scragglers") via normal means. Eventually their use would come into play near the end, when one of the enemy ships captured the polaron modulator. A scraggler would sneak aboard the enemy ship and take back the modulator. Once out of the void, one of the alliance ships would accept the scragglers aboard, and help bring them back to their home world.

I think Janeway giving back the polaron modulator was completely within character--she is the captain who destroyed the Caretaker's array, after all.

I don't have trouble with the species in the void. We don't know that their existence is totally dependent on ships, just that they have adapted to the ships that get caught there.

Your idea would have been a good episode, but that isn't what they wrote. :)

Yeah, Elite Force runs through my mind every time I watch The Void, too. It's kinda what would happen if Elite Force seduced Night and they had a love child.

(I played so much Elite Force, LOL. It combined my two favorite things at the time - Quake III Arena and Voyager. It was like someone at Raven crawled into my brain. There was even this guy I met during the EF Multiplayer beta that wanted me to run away with him... but...uh... I digress.)

That said, I do really enjoy The Void - although I think it would have been stronger as a two-parter. It would have increased that missing sense of danger and threat of starvation. I also enjoyed the hell out of the musical score for this episode. Oh, and the part when Voyager and their allies all go into warp together. That was so badass. I wish their allies could have stuck around longer for funsies.
