Is Ensign Kim the whiniest character ever?

Ensign Kim was a momma's boy. Everytime there was a way to get back home he would cry like a little baby when it did not work out. He could not wait to suck his mother's breasts again

I'm assuming you didn't realize that you were replying to a topic that hasn't been posted in for five years. Luckily we were the benefactors of your sparkling wit before the thread gets locked ;)

I disagree with the Wesley Crusher comparisons. Harry Kim is the kind of person who's smart because he studies 12 hours a day. Wesley Crusher is just a naturally talented person.

Also, Harry was obsessed with pleasing authority figures, whereas Wesley was obsessed with showing off and proving he's better than people.

It's true Harry couldn't have ordered a self destruct but he could have tried to blow up the warp core. It was an emotional dereliction of duty not to try to do that, but certainly not treasonous. And I would blame the writers handwaving that more than Kim. They could have had some mention to Kim trying to blow up the ship and the Doctor disagreeing and they didn't because they didn't feel like making it part of the story.

The episode didn't even start with how the Hirogen commandeered the ship so easily, but then we'd need a three-parter to show the take-over and give the rest of the time to a more paced ending. Roll with the episode and it's extremely good but as far as plot holes go, TKG didn't want to deal with a setup or more rounded conclusion, instead aiming for epic awe (seeing four decks converted into a large holodeck looks nice but what were their plans for three extra stories' worth of holodeck? (Wolf 359 and adding to the net simulated space that couldn't be used before to make simulating flying in space that much more realistic, to keep the crew from thinking something's odd and possibly overcoming their neurothingies... that's cool.)

The classic comment when people say "but it was a maternal relationship" is "if my mother ever looked at ME like that :wtf:.."

And it's true.

Chalk it up to bad acting, the best actors don't look like a Tex Avery -style cartoon character with the popping eyes and drooling tongue... :D

You want a VOY book?

Unfortunately for the J/C folk you had to watch her die before you got to the actual J/C parts, the one night of pre-death consummation notwithstanding.

Even more unfortunately for the J/7 folk we are still waiting.

If you want really good Treklit I can tell you my recommendations that don't take place in the middle of a mulit-long book series.

I'm more for a 7CT mass-shipping myself... 7, Chakotay, Tom  Pity I've increasingly loathed the concept of shipping since 1989 when it started to get popular because real sci-fi is nothing without the integrated instruction manual for copulation, apparently... or 1966 when Kirk was unwittingly passing every alien pathogen and viral strain across the galaxy...
