Is discovery worth it?

Well, nothing is free. I pay a BBC licence fee, I can watch commercial TV channels which require me to watch advertising, I can subscribe to a satellite or cable service (and still watch yet more adverts), or I can sign up to an an ad-free subscription service like Netflix and get access to archive programmes and new content.

I watched the whole episode and was thoroughly unimpressed with pretty much all of it, though the "sand planet" was pretty idiotic--not to mention a blatant violation of the Prime Directive.

Weren't they there to fix a mining accident the natives did not create?

If you like TNG, VOY, DS9 and the way the episodes were made, you will probably not like Discovery.

I think this is too general to be true. I agree that if you're a dyed-in-the -wool TNG or VOY fan and can quote Picard's greatest speeches and Janeway's most effective lectures to 7of9...yeah, this is likely to not appeal.

But, I think it's very much in the mold of TOS, ENT and DS9 in therms of character relationships, tone, action/adventure, arcs, etc.
