Is Chakotay dead ?

Neither did I, until the 20th or 21st watching. There does seem to be red on the cuffs, or it's a red undershirt, so I'm not 100% sure what era uni it actually is.
To me the room looks Starfeetish so I an thinking the man is Starfleet. What if is Riker and it is flashback to the Titan. Maybe it has something to do with Riker retiring. Maybe Seven was part of the crew. Jason

It looks like the Romulan room from the first trailer where they were taking the Borg apart. There's even dismembered drone bodies in the shot.

What does Manu's hair look like right now? Maybe it's Icheb?

Manu's only a year older than I am. Apparently he aged poorly.

My grandfather was gray by the time he was 30. My grandmother was full white by 30. Yeah, sometimes the genetics just don't work out.

Yeah, going gray early runs in my family, but for me it's more or less limited to my beard, which is getting toward full on santa.

I think he looks rather distinguished myself. Though it's a pretty meh picture.

I'm 44 and people still guess I'm in my late 20s or early 30s. And when I see pics of people who are my age, there often is a bit of 'Wait...he's my age? He looks like he's in his 50s...'

Maybe Wesley Crusher. We saw what he would look like as adult when Riker had Q power that time in season 1. Jason

The thing about it being someone other than Chakotay or Icheb, there would be no dramatic effect for us viewers. With those other two, we saw the bond that had formed (even if it was shoehorned into the last episode).

Is there any effect at all if it's "some guy Seven met and knew since we last saw her"?

We don't even know from which episode it is. It is perfectly possible to introduce a new character of whom the audience and Seven will care about. Hell, most of the characters in the show are new.

The consensus is that most of the scenes in the trailers are from the first episode. IDK if that's completely accurate, plus some of the scenes we do see are almost certainly flashbacks, like the Romulan attacks. Seven and whoever has the feel of a flashback.

Even at, what, 10 total episodes, how much will we even see Seven? Is she a regular, or doing a few appearances?

IMDB (take with a few grains of salt) has Jeri listed for "1 episode". Of course, they had Ethan Peck as Spock listed for "2 episodes" before S2 premiered, so.....

All I know is, this show can't get here fast enough.

It's the gray that's really doing it. If you dye his hair, he'd look 40-something.

But, yeah, he's aged some.
