Is anyone else excited about autumn arriving?

I am. I love the fall... summer is often just too hot for me, although this year hasn't been bad. Already there's that little bit of chill in the air in the morning when I leave for work... I love it, personally.

Ditto. This last week has been really oppressive in the Boston area.

It has been rotten! I've been wilting like all the sad plants in my yard.

It's actually halfway decent out this morning. I'm pretty excited. Supposed to get highs in the 70s by the end of the week.

Woohoo!!

I love the fall. The sweet sent of grapes is in the air so you know it's close. Man I love that smell.

I've got a few tons of pellets coming Thursday but I really wish we actually had a spring and summer this year. I really missed it.

I've always loved autumn. For me, the new year begins when school starts in the fall, not on January 1st. It's a time of harvest and storing and preparing, and I love that. I love having a full pantry and knowing that I'm ready for my family's needs. It's a time to reflect on all my blessings and ponder on how to best use them.

I love autumn, but I'm not ready for it's arrival. I'm still waiting on Summer to arrive. We had two weeks of Summer like weather just recently after the longest, wetest Spring in recorded history. The weather sucked for most of June, July and a good chunk of August and I'm still wainting on Summer. Fall can take a break and let Summer finish up because it got here so damn late...

Looking forward to spriong, just hopoing summer isn't too exciting, what with the heat and the bushfires and the etc.

We've had very springlike weather the last week or so. A cool change is coming through tomorrow or day after, I think.

It might just be me, but I can tell when spring really arrives, calendar be damned. There's a distinct, lively smell in the air, almost electric, very energising. Anyone else notice that?

I just prefer the cooler weather (the best weather is when it's cold and sunny) and people generally look better in nice coats as opposed to proudly displaying their flab during summer.

Yep, that^^

And I can finally wear my boots again and throw away the sandals.

The soundtrack is also better:

And the colours -they're just: wow!

Agreed. Under normal circumstances, I would be complaining about how oppressively humid and hot the summer has been, and that I can't wait for autumn to bring more moderate temperatures. Except, this year, things are a little different. Summer pretty much just got here to the mid-atlantic. It hasn't been bad all summer. I've quite enjoyed it. So no, I don't want autumn to come. I'm very comfortable right now, and the changing of the season just means colder temperatures. And I hate the cold.

Yeah, summer heat kills me as well. Bring on the cooler temps. The only problem with autumn in Oregon is that it also heralds the arrival of the rainy season, but I can live with that.

Yes I can't wait. I've always hated summer, heat just kills me. I'm one of those really pale people who doesn't tan, just burns. Add that to doing a lot of work outside and you get a lot of suffering.

Also I'm a jacket person. I never feel completely comfortable unless I am wearing at least a light jacket.

Agreed with those who like the fall. This morning was basically perfect - mid 60's and not a cloud in the sky - although temperatures have since climbed past perfection. In the fall it lasts all day. And there are football games to go to, and the leaves all change.

No, not really, 'cause that means winter is coming next, and I f**king hate winter.

September is okay... the temperature is still relatively nice. Then in October, it starts to get cooler, with an average of around 11 degrees Celsius (that's about 52 Fahrenheit). I prefer the heat, so this is not to my liking. Still, it's tolerable, and I do love Halloween, so October is not a complete write-off. Then November hits, and the average temperature is about 5 degrees Celsius (41 Fahrenheit). Sorry, but that's too chilly for my tastes... and you can only imagine how I feel about December-March.

So, no, not a huge fan of autumn, though FWIW, I'm even less of a fan of winter. It's nice that so many of you can enjoy it though... I wish I could too.

I feel a great sense of sadness when the autumn arrives. It's the end of summer, my favourite time of the year. It then reaches September, which has never, ever been my favourite month. The fullness of the trees becomes brown and the autumn leaves fall, the weather gets cold, the nights shorter, and the mornings darker.

So yeah. Count me in among the people who are sad to see the end of summer.

I'm looking forward to warmer weather here during spring.

Funny you mention that. Nearly 10 years ago my dad started work in New Zealand. Mum would then stay with him during their summer (our winter), and then, come March or so, travel back to the UK to be with us for our summer, then head back to New Zealand in September again. For a few years at least, she had never experienced winter.

Sounds lovely.

I know how you feel ZR -- I too love the summer. Always sad to see it go...

Autumn is very nice in some respects - the colour of the leaves, and the wardrobe switcharound to nicer clothes that comes with cooler weather. But I will miss summer. I always look forward to the start of spring & summer. I dislike winter for its long nights and so autumn, while pleasant in itself, is a harbinger of less pleasant times ahead.

For me, the Last Night of the Proms is usually the sound of the end of summer. That, and strains of "happy birthday to you" sung in my direction. :(
