Well, Claremont's mandate on the book was to revitalize both characters. To give them both a fresh start. A jumping on point, if you will.Systematically is almost an understatement. He practically kicked out all of Luke Cage's cast. Interestingly enough, he wasn't on Power Man and Iron Fist all that long and, when leaving, took Colleen and Misty with him. Fortunately, Mary Jo Duffy took over not too long after, reclaimed Misty and Colleen, and at least brought back some of Luke Cage's cast (at least as intermittent guests).
That said, there are a lot of names in issues 48 through 50 that would be very familiar to fans of the Luke Cage Netflix series. Reva Connors, Claire Temple, Bushmaster, Shades, Comanche.
One significant change of note from the comics to the screen, for those of you who might not have been aware, is that in the comics Danny's love interest was actually Misty, not Colleen.
I don't know the history of mixed ethnicity relationships in comics, so I don't know if it was groundbreaking or not, but in the early 70s it certainly would have been of note.
