iPad 2 Revealed

Don't know why I'm posting this. I don't care about the iPad. I'm pissed the new Macbook Pros, which imo are a superior product to the iPad and yet Apple are promoting the buggery out of their precious tablet.

Anyway.

Prefer the first gen design. I hate this wafer thin tech. Give me some meat on my technology.

i don't like tablets.

i prefer to have control over my device rather than be babysit by apple

What? Already? Wasn't iPad 1 only like a few months ago or something?

I still only know 3 people who have one.

Looks cool and sleek, but the price doesn't seem to be coming down. Therefore, I will continue to go without one.

I was always a critic of Apple.. not that much about their products which are very good but their business practices and product development. I just don't like a company to tell me what i want and what i can or can't do with the things i bought or that i don't need certain features because Apple thinks you have to use it differently and thus didn't include it (a USB port for the iPad for example).

That being said Apple has done it again.. small ideas that turn out great.
I was really impressed with the magnetic cover that's available.. a sensible thing to protect the important surface so you can carry it around in a bag and not worry about scratches on the display.
The kicker though is that it doubles up as a sort of stand for the iPad which kinda blew me away with the simplicity of the idea.

If i had the spare money i may have been tempted by it but as it stands i can't afford nor would i exactly know why i bought it since i'm really satisfied with my PC corner and don't need to be connected while away (said the same thing ages ago about cell phones and when mine died and i had to go on without one for a week i really started to miss it even though i don't use it much).

I'm the same with the Express Port. I used to use mine a lot but since the unibodies came out we're stuck with an SD slot (on the 13" and 15").

Which I'll never use as my camera doesn't use SD.

Much prefer a third USB port/second Firewire port.

My biggest issue with Apple is the need to use ITune to transfer music/movies. I have to relinquish so much control over my own content that it annoyed the crap out of me. I bought the original Ipod Mini cause my then girl friend wanted it. But having experienced the pain of can't get anything back out of the ipod in an easy drag/drop way, I swore off of it.

Interestingly enough, I am in the minority. Ipod (and apple for that matter) didn't really take off until after ITune became a platform software. The success of Apple in the last decade is a must-have case study in business schools.

Oh, and I hate having to use proprietary ports. Mini/Micro USB all the way for my digital devices, thank you very much.

My netbook does everything the iPad does and cost 1/3 as much. No thanks.

This is why I got a netbook, too. Having a nice, physical keyboard alone makes it worth it.

My girlfriend got a bluetooth keyboard with her iPad. Surprisingly, it's actually counter-useful most of the time.

Sure, if you're going to be doing a lot of typing then it's nice, but for the type of usage the iPad mostly gets, the virtual keyboard is actually a lot more convenient.

Love my original iPad, but I wish it had that magnetic cover.

I disagree, I like the case that I bought for my "old" iPad. It folds back and makes a nice stand. I wouldn't want a magnetic cover like Apple just showed.

The iPad 2 looks like a nice machine, but I'll be sticking with my old one... sorry, Apple. :p

I'm a bit torn, I love my iPad but can't see myself getting the iPad 2. However a few of the enhancements make it sure tempting. Now that the iPad 2 has mirroring, allowing you to display what you are doing on a screen is kind of big for me. I use my current iPad for all kinds of PowerPoint presentations (really using Keynote, just easier to say PowerPoint) I would love to also use it to do demonstrations. That would make my life really great.

I have to get my wife a new MacBook Pro, her almost 5 year old MacBook while still working great is needed to be upgraded. So I don't think I can do both in such close proximity. So I think the wifes MBP will win out.

I also think I will wait for the next generation to see if it has something like the retnia display.

I've been wanting one for awhile but I don't know if I can justify spending that much. I was waiting to see what was on the iPad 2 but the lighter size and such don't mean all that much to me.

It's a cute little gimmick/toy/gadget, in my mind.

I still haven't QUITE figured out what I'd use it for that my netbook and phone can't handle (with a real keyboard on the former), so I'll pass for now. :)

Cheers,

I love my iPad; goes with me everywhere. I really like that they finally added the cameras, and I love the magnetic cover. Has better screen resolution and processor I'm told (not my specialty). Size and weight issues are also a plus. My friend, who bought one with me, told me this would happen, but I didn't think it would happen in less than a year. Still, I won't be retiring my current baby just yet.

Not trying to pick on you, I've just seen this sentiment from several people and I wanted to address it.

I don't think it's a matter of the iPad doing something that other devices can't. For me, I like the functions it offers in this particular form. For example, having a real keyboard isn't important to me. I like that it's just one simple device that I could prop up on my knees while watching TV or something. I like that it's got a bigger screen than my iPod Touch without the bulk of a laptop.

I think a lot of it is a personal choice. I don't like having too many devices. I have a laptop that's really more of a desktop because I like to game. I don't want a netbook to take to class or anything like that though I've considered it in the past. I think an iPad would fit some of the gaps I have. I don't think it's that way for everyone, but obviously there's a market for it.
