Invisibility Cloak - Fact or Fiction?

Met physicist Dr Shuang Zhang at the Unversity of Birmingham last week who already has small scale cloak working. Larger ones will come...

In terms of a cloak--this may be a bit more interesting:

"We did not want to reroute the light waves, nor did we want to restore them with additional displays. Our goal was to guide the original light wave through the object, as if the object was not there at all," says Andre Brandstötter, one of the authors of the study. "This sounds strange, but with certain materials and using our special wave technology, it is indeed possible."

Now, I can't help but wonder if this might wind up helping laser lightcraft stay cool

Cloaking by rerouting light waves around an object does have the disadvantage of the object being rendered blind -- in light wavelengths at least. For large objects,Using miniature cameras and next generation thin, lightweight, flexible OLED displays would have sufficient camouflage properties to provide an advantage. Perfect cloaking is not required for military applications; just enough to give an edge.
