Intrepid "Where There's A Sea" release date announced

Well, since we're already way ofof topic....

None of us can or do lay a claim to a particular name or setting in the Trek mythos, and frankly, I think all this talk of "we were first" is pretty much irrelevant. What is relevant, IMO, is whether there is an active production using a particular name.

Now clearly, everyone's mileage varies on this, and I'm not suggesting there's a right or wrong here. What I will say, is if we were starting our production now, we'd look at what ships, names, and settings existing productions are using and avoid using something someone else is. That's my preference, and while I don't expect everyone else to agree, I think it brings far more to what we're doing than the alternative. And I think, for the most part, fans appreciate that continuity. Ignoring it, on the other hand, closes far more doors than it might open. Again, IMO.

For example, I'd love to see a big, fan-production spanning crossover. I think such a thing is doable, and I think done properly it'd be awesome. But as soon as you get into situations where ships are sharing the same name, or even some of the same characters, it just becomes untenable.

Longfellow's "Excelsior" wins.

On the off-topic topic: *disconsolate sigh*

It wasn't our preference to contradict even a small part of the HF canon when we got going. We felt it important to honor ten years of players from the Excelsior RPG first and foremost, though, before taking other productions into account, so we overrode our preference for fan film continuty rather than close the door to our own past. So I suppose we did go into this with eyes open. But I must say that neither Alex nor I expected the great big wall of "clout" and "claims" to sections of the Roddenberry 'verse that we've gotten from Mr. Caves.

Fortunately for Alex, he couldn't care less. But I'm the egotistical producer, the one who thinks the benefits of good relations with other shows are worth the effort--and the one who gets his back up when people start taking potshots at the legitimacy of our written and produced work.

But eventually the time comes when you write things off as not meant to be, give a nice loud disconsolate sigh, and move on.

I hope one day we do see a big crossover. It'd be a lot of fun for all involved, and, with the right script, I think one could make the continuity conflicts go away for an hour or two. As an expert finder of canon loopholes myself, I'd be glad to participate if so invited.

I mean, if Pendant and Darker Projects could do it... :D

That's a decidedly unfair characterisation. No one ever suggested your work was in any way illegitimate, and I object to the accusation.

I applaud you for choosing to chart your own course, but I guess I just don't see the point in doing so, and then suggesting we should adapt our continuity to somehow accommodate yours.

Wow. Wowbanger, I don't know where your animosity is coming from, because I have the up-most respect for anyone who goes to the work of putting any audio or video work out there in a reasonably competent fashion. But you're right, you just have to sigh and move on if there isn't any way to maintain continuity. Sometimes when you're making a production you have to give certain perks to the people that make it possible, and in your case that was the RPG group. That's totally fine, but you can't really have both. That was the point I apparently failed to make.

I wish Excelsior all the best. I'd rather not detract further from Intrepid's imminent release.

Cheers,

Rob

Man. I wrote a mildly long post in response to Intrepid, defending my irritation at Rob, and then, while previewing, areakt's response pops up.

Clearly, I read much more into what you were saying than I should have. I'm sorry, Rob. While I don't agree with it, I really do understand your way of thinking about this. What I was taking exception to was something you evidently weren't trying to say.

And I never saw anything wrong with what you were saying, Intrepid.

I wish you both well in all you do. Lord knows there are too many HF fans on the Excelsior for me to do otherwise.

Just a quick update.

We're still waiting on an element being delivered. Once we receive it, it'll still take us a few hours to render out the video, so I wouldn't expect anything much before midnight, BST. It's also a distinct possible we may miss our target, in which case it'll probably be Monday.

Sorry folks, we're pretty bummed out about it, but at this stage there's not much we can do. We'll keep you posted.

Okay, it's now 10pm BST. We'll still try to get it out as soon as possible once the final element is delivered, but barring a miracle I'm afraid I'm going to have to admit defeat. Today's release is postponed until at least tomorrow.

Sorry folks. :(

lol :p Methinks some more fidgeting and hitting refresh on the Intrepid site every 10 seconds is in order until it says DOWNLOAD NOW!!! (this impatience is coming from someone who never once managed to get a video out on the release date - in fact, 27 months overdue on one of them...:alienblush: shame on me)

Best of luck with it ;) Really looking forward to the release!

Thanks. :)

Just spoke with the person responsible for the final element, and unfortunately he's had some technical issues and real life issues beyond his control. At this point, we could be looking at a few days delay. :(

You have my sympathy. It's amazing how "things" always crop up at the last second with these projects. After getting beat up by Mr. Murphy on our last episode I feel your pain!

Well on the plus side, it's really just a case of dropping this element in and rendering out the video. So once we've got it, it won't take more than a few hours to get the finished short out there.

Having herded cats on a few productions (none of them Trek, and certainly not at "Hidden Frontier" or "Intrepid" level), you have my ultimate respect for being able to at least bracket a deadline.

We're all (chronologically) grownups here. I'm sure we'll manage to wait. Take your time and get it right.

You guys are doing great..I really enjoy watching your material. Best of the live-action productions IMO. Your writing is tighter than the others..keep it up!!!

Thanks guys. :)

So, good news; all the elements are now in hand, and the revised release date is tomorrow evening, July 25th, at 7:46:00pm BST.

So...... that's about 2:46 PM today here in New York?
( I had to google BST, I'd never heard of it before! )
Why :46 and not a round number?
