Interview with Michael A. Martin

Good interview makcalhoun. Thanks for posting it here.

I've read TGTMD, and quite enjoyed it, but have still not cracked open KM. I figured I would wait for the MMPB of the first Romulan War book comes out to get it, and then read them both back to back. I wonder how many more Ent-R novels/stories Michael plans on writing? Is he writing by himself from now on? So many questions...

I can only answer that Mike and I have not had discussions about writing together again for quite some time.

That doesn't mean I don't hope or plan to write for Trek again (it was me who brought Mike aboard as my co-writer after all, and I've had a fairly substantial solo writing career), just that for at least the next two books, we are not writing together, and I have no solo Trek projects that I can announce.

Those who saw me chatting with a certain Vulcan actor in San Diego, or with any of the Trek editors who were there... well, you may speculate as you'd like.

So Andy, you had no input for Romulan War? Mike didn't consult you seeing as how it picks up from where Km left off..

Is the TPB version going to be the version of this book or will a MMPB come out a year later?

And even if there is an MMPB reprint, Pocket may elect to wait and release it when the second Romulan War title is published -- which will be 2011 at the earliest. There is precedent for waiting: the reprint of Death in Winter was not released for two years, so it could form part of the TNG 20th anniversary celebration in 2007, when it was released as as part of 4 straight months of TNG titles.

Hey, won't 2011 will be the 10th anniversary of Enterprise?

We had certainly had plotting talks about where the story was going to go after Kobayashi Maru, including where some characters and situations would ultimately end up. Both Mike and I set up many story threads, easter eggs, and cliff-hangers, intending on paying them off in one or two books, or further down the line.

But Mike did not further consult with me on any matters related directly to the writing of this new book.

The person to ask would be the new editor...whoever that is.

Are the writers being told anything at this point? Like when to expect the name? Is everyone pretty much carrying on as normal, just with no editor?

I can take a look at your stuff. I have some minor editing experience. :D
