You're not wrong about it feeling like an obligation sometimes, especially if the material turns out to be... not good. For a personal example, I wanted to be conversant on this board about Voyager and Enterprise, so I watched both series even though I really didn't like them. But they were Trek, and I wanted to know the lore and be able to talk about them, so I watched them.Fair enough. Someone saying "I'm not looking forward to..." reads as an obligation to me, i.e. "I'm not looking forward to attending 5 meetings today." But it's still something I have to do. A film series is not something I feel obligation towards. So, I apologize if I sound flippant because as far as attitudes go this one is difficult for me to parse.
