Independence 2 and 3

Lt. Trull

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
where would they go with the movie... will smith is apparently on board... the movie is supposed to have a connecting story arc... will humanity have learned it's lesson and not live congregated into large areas like the city's that were took out on the first movie.... will they live spread out into smaller communities... will the military learn that same lesson... will they have used alien tech...
any idea's.... ???

I admittedly love the first film (it's the ultimate in jingoistic alien invasion movies!), but where would you go with a sequel fifteen years after the fact (let alone two sequels?).

The first movie is an awesomely patriotic popcorn flick that I really enjoy. I'm wondering what the second and third would be about? Probably arrival or more of the alien fleet in the 2nd with an Empire Strikes Back type cliffhanger leading into the third?

I'm wondering where the characters from the first movie will be. If they're shooting 2011 at the earliest you gotta figure maybe July 4th weekend 2012? So that would be 16 years after the original.

Maybe Will Smith's character is now president.

That would really parallel Bill Pullman's president in the first movie. He was in his early 40s and a former jet fighter pilot. Will Smith is now in his early 40s(damn time flies).

Smith's character is probably not a politician (doesn't seem the type to put up with that). He is probably a Colonel or even a General in charge of Earth's new defense fleet. With his son as the new hotshot pilot type.

I was going to post this but until it's confirmed I will hope it's not true.

Roland makes shit movies. Stargate was a good base, but not a great movie, ID4 is his best one by far and everything else he has made has gotten worse and worse. 2012 was so incredibly stupid I had to shut my brain off to watch it.

So not needed at all! The aliens are dead, that was the whole fleet. Just really REALLY stupid!

The aliens are dead, that was the whole fleet.

Agreed. The alien speaking 'through' Dr. Okun said as much. It was their whole civilization inside the mothership. When it went boom, so did they.

I suppose there could have been survivors in the city-destroyers that crashed to Earth at the end, though. Isn't there a novel where this exact thing happens?

I really don't know where else they could go. Like a Stargate sequel Dean Devlin has been talking about doing a Independence Day sequel for a long time now. I love ID4 as a popcorn flick.

Wow, first it is announced we're getting more Godzilla and now possibly more Independence Day movies? My geeky heart is jumping for joy!!!

They could intreduce new aliens. Maybe ones that the original aliens were "on the run" from?

^ I think it works best with what they said in the film: the aliens weren't on the run from anything, they were just roaming from world to world, consuming all of a planet's resources before moving on.

I think the best scenario is that not all Aliens died in the crash of the city destroyers. You could have aliens pockets of resistance and with their advanced technology and intelligence maybe they could rebuild rather quickly and still present a grave threat to mankind.

Is this even true? An early april fools? I liked the first movie, but it seems to be that sequels would have been better off happening a year or two after the first one.

That seems the most likely scenario. Perhaps they went into hiding and have been hatching their plan for revenge, with only a few humans aware of the threat (I'm telling you, Mr. President, the secret alien base is real!) Some nice set pieces come to mind - imagine our heroes crawling through the aged wreckage of an alien city ship, searching for some key piece of information or technology they need - only to find themselves ambushed by aliens in bio-battlesuits. Or scenes set in one of the previously devastated large cities, now partially rebuilt with retro-engineered alien materials and tech.

Not that I have any confidence the actual movies will be this smart, mind you.

I predict a repeat of Matrix history where the second movie will be entertaining then abruptly end, and the third will make you want your money back.

idk... i alway's pictured smith as becomming leader of the terran space defence force... the movie doesn't have to be 16 years after.... id4 #1 I believe is generically set in any future... meaning it could happen this year... and the sequel's 5 or so years after.... digital manipulation can take years off a person....
ID4 #2 and #3 3D anybody?

if Bill Pullman isn't in these films, I wont even watch them when they port them to the USA network years down the road.

after what pullman did... the recinded the presidential 10 year only requirement and make him president for life....

Or he's not the President of the United States, but Prime Minister/Chancellor/President/whatever title it is of a united Earth ;)
