I'm thinking of joining the Navy

^^ One can discuss that in the bbs-related sub-forum, I believe.

Back to the thread, do I therefore take it that, apart from the dramatically increased likelihood of shooting at people, Army OCS would be more interesting, better paid and all-around generally preferable than enlisted Navy? (If enlisted Navy really is just swabbing decks...) If so, then my choice order might be, from most to least desirable,

Navy OCS, Air Force/Army OCS, enlisted Air Force/Marines, enlisted Navy/Army

(Don't think I'd want to do Marines OCS even apart from its physical rigors...)
An Army officer would rarely shoot at people. As a matter of fact from day one we're trained that "if you're shooting your weapon, you are wrong". An officer in the Army needs to be coordinating an attack and directing soldiers, not preoccupied with aiming a weapon.

That's why we had to split off the Army Air Corps to create the Air Force. Air Force pilots aren't told that they're doing something wrong if they pull the trigger.

^^ You guys, please don't accuse somebody of Trolling. Accusing somebody of Trolling is Warnable. If you really think somebody is Trolling, use the Notify button.

Curious, why, is trolling a crime and would (false) accusation have a baaaad effect on the poster? It's not actual hurting anybody if you say “this guy posts off topic or extraneous messages”. The Internet is taking itself way too seriously when it comes to “trolls” on message boards.
Trolling is defined as posting deliberately inflammatory, rude, hateful, extraneous, irrelevant, or off-topic messages with the intent to anger or bait other members. gturner isn't a troll. He uses satire and irony. Sometimes quite effectively, I might add.

Nevertheless, Trolling is against the rules-- check out the FAQ-- and accusing someone of Trolling is Trolling.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. Don't suppose you know of any good books/memoirs about contemporary Army OCS? :)

For my own part, I finally got on the horn with the local officer recruiter this Tuesday, and have begun filling out the preliminary forms. I now definitely intend to serve in some capacity. :bolian:
