I'm So Sick Of The Secrecy...

Anyone else sick and tired of this super-secrecy?

What, exactly, is the point?

Previous Trek did not get slammed because of spoilers and leaks; we slammed some of the past stuff like Enterprise and what not due to quality issues.

What, exactly, does treating Trek like a national secret accomplish?

Maybe that we'll actually be able to see it without already knowing everything about it and having a cloud of preconceptions in our heads. You know, like normal people watching normal movies.

Also, if you spent two years making a movie, would you want some snot-nosed bastard to know everything about it before its even finished? Should painters be required to post progress reports of their projects as they work on them?

I'm glad they're doing a good job keeping it a secret so far. It ratchets up the anticipation and excitement, and from a purely selfish stand point, I don't have to practice self-control by staying away from Star Trek websites to avoid being spoiled too much.

DING! DING! DING! We have a WINNAH!

A few drips of info here and there are fine (as we've been getting so far--and, to me, we're already bordering on too much information, especially so far from the actual movie). But the kind of full out "spoilers" some people seem to want is absurd. Why would you want to know all the plot points and details of a movie (any movie) before you see it? Doesn't make any sense.

We already know quite allot about most of the main characters in the movie. I don't want the plot spoiled at all.

You're entirely right, naturally.

Personally, I don't see why they don't just release the scenes on YouTube as they're filmed, and let us see what's going on for ourselves before the movie is released.

Then, if we want, we can spend money to see the film, and if not they can be roasted by their bosses for letting us make our minds up ahead of time.

Online commentary on "First Contact", "Insurrection" and "Nemesis" was agonizingly nitpicky, and all three had all versions of their scripts bootlegged, uploaded to the 'net and over-examined, comma by comma.

"Insurrection" and "Nemesis" hardly had a chance because so much of fandom had made up its collective minds they were gonna hate 'em.

I welcome the secrecy sourrounding the movie. I think it will we rewarding once I'll be in front of the big screen. Desire and immediacy do not go well together...

I think that the whole idee is so the movie gets a fair chance when its shown on big screen. That is what JJ and co want.
Not good if we all have dumped the movie before it is shown becuse we all now how it will end or some other reason.

Think of it as StarTrek gets a new fresh start. You never heard of it before. We start from zero now

I'm VERY tired of all the secrecy.

There are several reasons for so much secrecy. They can talk all they want about preserving the surprise or building interest. Ultimately, that's bull plop.

First, their biggest projects so far, Lost-Alias-MI3, relied heavily on keeping the stories secret. At this point, Abrams team simply operates on secrecy. That's how they do it.

Second, I'm sure there is a big fear that if they release some images or info too soon it could generate a negative response. Remember, Abrams got burned once before when his early draft script for a Superman movie got out and was trashed by AICN and the fans. Enterprise is also a good lesson; the first image of the NX-01 was panned far more than it was praised by fandom. Already the ship shown in the teaser trailer has generated a lot of controversy among fans.

Abrams and team need to get over themselves and release something juicy. A shot of the crew on the bridge, Kirk firing a phaser, old spock with new spock, a short behind the scenes video...SOMETHING, please.

I don't want the story spoiled; I know enough about it already to know I don't like it. I'm hoping the dialogue, acting and directing make up for it. But it's time to offer up a true appetizer to the fans. I can wait for the meal.

I love the fact that there is so much secrecy surrounding this movie. It increases the hype and stops the movie from being ruined by spoilers. Kudos to JJ & company!

So, you're saying the secrecy is because they know this movie is terrible?

I don't know for sure, but is the secrecy surrounding this movie any tighter than the secrecy surrounding most high-budget tent-pole movies?

I think some of us may be frustrated because we've taken a detailed interest in this movie long before more well-adjusted people would. [As we approach the one-year anniversary of the official announcement Abrams would direct the movie. ]
