I'm Really Looking Forward to Baseball Season

Is there something wrong with me? I know both the Giants and A's are going to suck, the whole Stariod thing has really taken a toll on the game, but through all that, I'm still psyched for opening day. It should be considered a national holiday, but there is just something about Opening Day that I really love. You get baseball all day long on ESPN and ESPN2, the Giants and Dodgers renew ties, and it's just another season. I think the fact that I started the whole Fantasy thing has made me even more interested in the game in that it's allowed me to follow more than just the Bay Area teams. I wonder if the Sox will repeat, who is coming out of both the Wild Wild wests (Watch out for Seattle, I think they will surprise) and just with the weather changing, spring almost upon us, and other sports coming to the end of thier seasons, it's time to Play Ball.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Yep, I'm definitely looking forward to the season. At the very least, gives you something to watch after dinner at night, and that's even more important until the spring shows come back.

Kinda machocistic to look forward to the Giants or A's this year, though.

And I'm also looking forward to kicking your ass on the first week of Fantasy Baseball! My team will just be counting it as one more week of Spring Training

Yeah, I'm ready for baseball to start, too. Something about the time of year, warmer weather approaching, hitting a ballgame again...it's always fun getting started with the season.

Well at least I'm not going up against Pegs the first week. At least I know I have some sort of a chance. :p

I can't wait. This year should be fun for baseball. The steroid era is past, and the fun of the game can take over. As for the Red Sox, it should be fun to see the young players develop over the course of the season. I am curious to see what Jon Lester will do with normal season under his belt.

I'm itching for the season to start. I just ordered tickets for the April 11-13 Royals/Twins series (BTW, the Royals' web site kind of sucks), so for me that makes the season seem that much closer.

I'm not expecting a lot from my Twins this year, but (as always), I have high hopes. That's the great thing about baseball: You never know when the right mix of players will boost your team enough to have a shot at winning it all.

(Apologies for the double post)

Wait a minute: Didn't you make a comment sometime last year about how I was the only team you could beat? :) And I think I did lose to you every time we played. I didn't have a good year, but I had the good fortune (or dumb luck) of finishing the regular season in that coveted 6th playoff spot. I'd be more than happy to finish there again, but this year I'd like to turn my silver into gold.

Yep, and I've got opening day tix to the Red Sox, so should be a blast, especially with the banner and ring ceremonies, etc :D

I had hoped to take in the opening game in the new Nationals ballpark, but I live too far from the park to buy season tix and make a regular trip down there, and there's no way in hell I'm paying $300-400 for a pair of seats to that game. The big screen HDTV will substitute just fine. The beer is cheaper and the popcorn is free. :p

Still, I'm looking forward to hitting games there later on, as well as in Baltimore, Philly, and maybe in Pittsburgh at some point. I have seats to a couple of Sox games in Baltimore (those games are almost always essentially Red Sox home games anyway).

This is the year of the new Ballpark? Is that why they have opening night on ESPN?

Yep. It's a single-game, too. Next day, they're playing in Philly for a series to open the Phillies' season.

^ Wow, did they schedule that one opening game in after the fact?

I love how they have the season opener as a primetime game on a Sunday night. There's nothing worse than being stuck at work all day while all the pomp and circumstance of opening day is goingon.

Come to think of it, why do they start the season on a Monday? Wouldn't it make more sense to start it with a Fri-Sun weekend set?

I think the opening day was planned like that. The Braves were apparently asked if they would be willing to do that, then open the season in another city the next day and they agreed. I do like opening day games in the afternoon when I can go to them. Always a great way to start the season in the afternoon. Especially if it's not too chilly.

As a diehard Boston Red Sox fan, I'm always looking forward to baseball season. Can't wait to see what my guys, fresh off another WS win, will come up with this season.

I'd hope for a repeat...but I don't want to jinx it.
