I'm not going....anyone else?

Re: I'm not going....

It's too soon to say if I'll see it or not. There are a few things that give me misgivings:

Kirk is going to have a "NEMESIS".

The plot involves time travel.

The Enterprise is being redesigned. This probably means it will end-up looking like a Las Vegas hotel.

I probably won't be in the first wave of viewers because of this, but, who knows, my fears might prove groundless. It does seem to have a talented cast assembled.

Ha ha ha ha! Lets all make fun of Warped9 because we like being juvenile assholes and snicker at the thought of being civil adults. It's not like the mods will give out any warnings or anything. Hey Warped9, fuck you! LOL!

Agreed. Whatever happened to "post" not "poster"?

You will be first in line wearing your Spock ears......Who are you kidding? :rommie:

I'm pretty sure JJ Abrams and the other creatives involved aren't losing too much sleep over those with this sort of asinine CBG attitude.

And I'm pretty sure that's one of many reasons that Abrams rather than some canonista is the guy tapped to revive "Star Trek."

I believe I coined the phrase 'canonista' ....and I will expect a royalty check

but yes Abrams is the right level of fandom. He likes Star Trek and respects the past, but does not worship it like some kind of religion. Plus he has uber fans and non fans on his staff to keep the balance.

I'm sitting on a fence about this movie.

I'm indifferent to the cast. I kinda like that they took people they think can do the job rather than people who can fill theaters just with their names. I'm indifferent to JJ Abrams. He can do good things, but he can do bad things as well.

I'm not a big fan of the TOS revival. This shows lack of guts and imagination, a common trend with Star Trek executives for a while (I'll quote Rick Berman in an interview just before the beginning of Enterprise "Star Trek is comfortable to people"). I would have prefered they stripped Star Trek to it's core, go from there, and do a full blown reimagining, new crew + new stories + same spirit.

As far as I'm concerned this movie can either be the greatest thing that happened to Star Trek or it could bury it for a few more years. It all depends on the level of dedication of the people working on it, the minute they feel safe, confortable, confident, is the minute the project will die.

I'd be somewhat more receptive if they'd just be candid and say it's a restart.

I will agree with warped9 to a point here. At some point, they should make this CFB if this is a re-boot/re-launch or not, and then I will have about 75% more respect for the project.

If not, I will STILL be going to see this film as I have never considered my fandom to be dependent on "visual evidences" or what the canon freaks hold dear. The best Trek (i.e. the REAL deal) is STILL to be found on paper or floating about on the 'net nowadays.

Don't you know its gonna be...alright...

I,ll go see it once because I'm a fan and the curiosity alone will compel me. If it's good I'll be back for more.

Me, too. I went back a few times for GEN, FC, and INS. I went a second time for NEM only because I figured I had missed something or was in the wrong mood for it and that it deserved a second try. I was wrong, of course. Very wrong. Wronger than I've ever been.... But I digress. I will definitely see this film at least once. I'm hopeful. I'm betting it's not a reimagining or a reboot, especially since they are including Nimoy as Spock. If it was a retelling, why wouldn't they recast old Spock, too? I'm betting this story will fit in with canon for the vast majority of the story, just like every other Trek movie.

I believe I was the first to use "canonista" so you can go ahead and hand me that cash when the check clears.

I don't know how any Star Trek fan could at least not be CURIOUS to see whether this movie works or not. Even if this experiment is a total failure, just the fact that they have the balls to try it makes it worth checking out.

And while I love TOS too, I don't hold it up on such a high pedestal that I regard any attempt to remake it as "sacrilege." I think some people just take this show and themselves way too seriously. In the end, we're only talking about a two hour movie here.

Thank you for summing up my feelings so perfectly and saving me the trouble of typing them out. :)

Since we're all well aware of the reasons why some people will not go to check out this film, does that mean they'll finally stop kvetching about it and post in a forum where people actually give two shits about what they "think?"
And evidently you didn't read the initial post. If you don't want to read dissenters' opinions then buzz off and let folks have their say. There are plenty of other threads available for the "lovin' it" crowd.

and you post in each one of those to proclaim your unremitting distain. Um.. yeah, we get it. Thanks for the continual updates.

Cary L. Brown said:I'd recommend Warp9 relax a bit... take it as it comes. See the flick (even if that means seeing it without paying them a dime for it). I'm sure your free time isn't THAT valuable... and that you can afford to lose a couple of hours at some point.

If it's that bad... just imagine the fun ripping it to shreds! ;)

You'll be just that much better equipped to level devasting critiques on the flick (if it deserves them) if you actually KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.

Don't you think?
Stop it. You're making way too much sense. We just can't have that type of behavior here. This is a Trekkie board and we declare Trek movies suck before we see thm and not after. :vulcan: ;)

Your childhood is gonna be raped, so get a lawyer or something. Maybe you'll land yourself a guest spot on the next Maury Povich show, "Trek Fans who can't deal with new ideas and the moms that still cut their meat for them."

LMFAO!!! :guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw:

That's totally going into my sig...

This film is coming out in 2008. I am going to see it because I am psyched to see a new Trek film. Maybe I'll even enjoy it. The rest of you who seem unwilling, unable to enjoy Trek beyond this really narrow view of fandom may actually miss out on something or you may be right.. Constantly posting negative crap on the internet will never endear me to appreciate or respect your point of view.

I am well aware that my opinion may or may not matter to some of you, but allow me to remind you of the same from my end. This film doesn't need your approval to be made. They're doing it without you. Deal.

You're my new friend...

It's no secret around these parts regarding my stance on this, er, film. I've basically heard nothing encouraging up to this point to convince me to pay to see this...movie. It would take a freaking miracle to convince me otherwise.

That said is there anyone else out there inclined to not seeing this movie unless hell freezes over, er, a miracle springs forth?

And BTW this isn't an effort to convince anyone not to see it, but merely a sounding board for those already inclined against it without being denounced as unfairly biased.

Good...now try and get this through your head.

It's a television show! Anyone who gets all jacked up about it needs to sit down and thing about shit.

Great. Have fun being miserable...

I, OTOH, will not being going on openning day... because it's Christmas. I'll be going the NEXT day. I CAN'T WAIT!
