I'm not going....anyone else?

The only thing about this thing that remotely has my interest is the possibility of Romulans being the villains. If I don't anything else that sounds interesting about it between now opening day, forget it. I live 35 miles away from the theatre I usually go to see a movie and there is no way a remake or whatever term you want use in it's place is worth wasting gas for. I can watch the original on TV for free.

I'll go if--against all odds--it looks good from the ads and the reviewers I more-or-less trust tell me it's good. I will neither see or not see it simply because I'm a Trekkie.

(I think I'll make this my new sig. :D )

I'm going, if only because my sons will insist (I'd go myself, anyway).

Even if the movie isn't great, I'll chalk up the ticket price to supporting the sure-to-be-released line of toys, just because my kids will love those.

Well, there's already a fine topic in the TOS forum devoted to dog-in-the-manger attacks and denouncements of this movie. Evidently, it wasn't stirring up enough angst and offense over there to be satisfactory.

Obviously I'm doing this the tradiotional internet fanboy way. I'll spend the next year bitching and moaning about how Trek XI is a betrayal to the Trek franchise and how it'll rape my childhood, but I'll be among the first to see it.

I've yet to see a TBBS thread that was nothing but a bunch of people reaffirming eachothers mutual opinion.

QFT. You're just absolutely right. You are so smart!

An honest reply from a true fan.

I am sure most of these people will go and see it, just so they can tell you in great detail how right they are about how much it sucks and how they told you so.

I am pretty certain people like Warped will be right up there in the front row, shouting at the screen, with a notebook on his lap to chronicle each and every egregious offence to his fragile sensibilities...and I am sure he will simultaneously be trying to figure out how to make yet another Space Ghost photomanip with the new design of the Enterprise, so he can once again whore himself out for the attention of those who fear change as much as he.

I don't know how any Star Trek fan could at least not be CURIOUS to see whether this movie works or not. Even if this experiment is a total failure, just the fact that they have the balls to try it makes it worth checking out.

And while I love TOS too, I don't hold it up on such a high pedestal that I regard any attempt to remake it as "sacrilege." I think some people just take this show and themselves way too seriously. In the end, we're only talking about a two hour movie here.

I,ll go see it once because I'm a fan and the curiosity alone will compel me. If it's good I'll be back for more.

Since we're all well aware of the reasons why some people will not go to check out this film, does that mean they'll finally stop kvetching about it and post in a forum where people actually give two shits about what they "think?"
And evidently you didn't read the initial post. If you don't want to read dissenters' opinions then buzz off and let folks have their say. There are plenty of other threads available for the "lovin' it" crowd.

I couldn't bear knowing there was a new Star Trek adventure out there that I hadn't seen yet. Quality just doesn't concern me in that first instance (but quality will influence how many times I go back to the cinema to see it again before the DVD comes out, just like the last ten movies.)

In fact, it already drives me crazy that I haven't got back to the US for a visit since the Las Vegas Hilton opened its two Star Trek rides. New live-action footage, and I haven't seen it.

I'm curious to see what they gonna do. Bit surprised with the casting. But I'll see it, there is no doubt about that.

It's no secret around these parts regarding my stance on this, er, film. I've basically heard nothing encouraging up to this point to convince me to pay to see this...movie. It would take a freaking miracle to convince me otherwise.

That said is there anyone else out there inclined to not seeing this movie unless hell freezes over, er, a miracle springs forth?

And BTW this isn't an effort to convince anyone not to see it, but merely a sounding board for those already inclined against it without being denounced as unfairly biased.

I'm pretty sure JJ Abrams and the other creatives involved aren't losing too much sleep over those with this sort of asinine CBG attitude.

I will undoubtedly see the flick. Depending on what I see about it in advance, I may not see it at the theater, however. It will inevitably be seen on DVD in my home, regardless.

That's even if the film turns out to be an utter abortion.

The thing is, if the film IS that bad, I won't see anything that comes along after it (unless a whole new creative team is involved).

I'm not too worried, though. I mean, it's not like we've seen a sequel to the "Lost in Space" movie, is it? Do a horrible job "translating" an old show, even a bad one like LIS, and you only end up that much worse of a failure.

I'd recommend Warp9 relax a bit... take it as it comes. See the flick (even if that means seeing it without paying them a dime for it). I'm sure your free time isn't THAT valuable... and that you can afford to lose a couple of hours at some point.

If it's that bad... just imagine the fun ripping it to shreds! ;)

You'll be just that much better equipped to level devasting critiques on the flick (if it deserves them) if you actually KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.

Don't you think?

Re: I'm not going....

Ha ha ha ha! Lets all make fun of Warped9 because we like being juvenile assholes and snicker at the thought of being civil adults. It's not like the mods will give out any warnings or anything. Hey Warped9, fuck you! LOL!
