Basic Cartesian Philosophy!
I use Descartes' Method of Doubt as a first step in examining and constructing my own beliefs. However, I've probably (read: definitely) bastardized it considerably. Early on in my existential musings, I determined that everything can be doubted, even existence itself.
Descartes determined that he existed because he can think. I'm not so sure. What if I've only deluded myself into believing that I can think and that I exist? There's no way to know for sure.
However, there seem to be patterns and consistencies in what I perceive as reality; certain things happen and other things don't happen. Given these patterns, it seems likely that I do exist. I'm not certain, but I'll assume that existence is real for the time being, because I have nothing else to go on. So, if reality is real, then I exist.
Therefore "I think, therefore I am" becomes "it seems as though I exist, therefore I probably exist. If I do not exist, I have no way of knowing, so I might as well keep pretending because I don't know what else to do."
You are not me, so things may be different for you.
It's about Goddamned time Lil Jon is recognized as the brilliant philosopher he is.
