I've been growing mine in due to laziness/the girlfriend likes it.
This thread is useless without pictures. Treker, you better be documenting the entire process with photos each day, so that we might add them to your archive of legendary exploits from your TrekBBS adventures.

TREKER FAIL.
How long should it really take from perfectly shaved to grow "a beard"?
I'm 26 now and still can't really grow one. I had a week off recently and didn't shave for 10 days, and I just thought it looked rubbish at the end of it. Maybe it's just me, its all patchy and my moustache doesn't connect to the face part, like there aren't are hair folicles in between. I wasn't sure if it just needed longer time to grow, or if beards just aren't for me.

Eh, I've given up on it this morning and will likely shave it off tonight. It was coming in okay but the hairs around my mouth are coarser than pubic hair and, frankly, I found the damn thing annoying.

TREKER FAIL.
Not a fail, just didn't like it.

Fair enough. I guess I feel a little let down. This thread promised big things and I was hoping you'd post a pic to show the end result. Instead, it's just pittering away like a dorito fart.![]()
Punk. BTW, if you can't grow one as full as mine, you probably should give up!

I'll get a picture and post it, haven't bothered to shave it yet.
I dunno, maybe I'll live with it for the reast of the week and see how it ends up before I have to go back to work.
I just find it more annoying than anything else, feeling the coarse hairs when I touch my face and and rub my lips together. Bah!

Oh, I'm sure I could grow one as full as yours.
Well, I don't know that for sure but, bah!
I just figured by age 26 what more is there to develop? How long should it really take from perfectly shaved to grow "a beard"?

It's genetic, in terms of thickness, coverage, and growth. You also just may need more time, both in the short-term (to grow more) and in the long-term for things to fill in and get thicken. If you cannot connect the mustache to your facial hair or things aren't filling in, you may have to wait several years, or this may just never happen.
And photograph yourself under the same lighting and from the same distance and angle each day, then edit all the frames together for a time-lapse movie. Watch your beard grow in 30 seconds! This thread is useless without pictures. I think I completely agree. That being said, go with a full goatee and beard. Those always look classy and slightly evil.
Maybe you could trim it this way. Then you'd look like an old salt.I seem only capable of growing a 'neckbeard'. Darker hair only comes in on the underside of my chin and neck.
Hey, if you like the look of it and it's comfortable for you, go for it.
Personally, a few days' growth has always made me itch....

I think if I grew it out longer it would probably look like a Brandon Flowers (lead singer of The Killers) style.
