I'm feeling old...

While Zachery Smith and I seem to be from the same ancient civilization, my mom just laughed at me.

She remembers Gone With The Wind coming to the local movie house. She recalls FDR getting elected. She remembers radio before CBS. Going across the country meant taking the train. Phones were all party lines and phone numbers had four digits. Her first car was a used Model A. She was in her 30's before ever taking a plane flight. She remembers the German immigrant next door having to raise the flag and salute every morning because he faulted the government and was charged under the sedition act.

I think she has us all beat.

As I get older, I realize that time is passing by when I stop to think about mundane things...like these...

The movie JAWS came out 35 years ago!!!

Star Trek The Next Generation has been off the air twice as long as it was on the air...yikes...

I was born during the viet nam war!

I actually know who Tiny Tim was....

Star Trek III came out 26 years ago!!!...

You think your old...
I read the book Jaws before it was a movie
I remember watching Star Trek: The Animated Series
I remember Truman and Eisenhower's funeral
I met Tiny Tim (and he was a loon in person too)

"OOHHHHhhh . . . Tiptoe through the window! By the window! That's where I'll be . . . Oh, tiptoe through the tulips . . . with ME . . . . . !"

What makes me most aware of my age is the pace of technology. If you're under 30, you've probably never used a rotary-dial phone or a typewriter, or played records on a turntable, or had to get up to change the TV channel, or sat in a car that doesn't have seatbelts or airbags -- but DOES have at least four ashtrays.
The Jupiter II was sabotaged en route to Alpha Centauri THIRTEEN YEARS AGO.
And the “futuristic” Gerry Anderson series UFO took place in 1980! Thirty years later, we still don't have a moonbase staffed by pretty women in purple wigs.

. . . Everybody today is as unkempt and sloppy looking as they were in 1997. I miss the hairstyles of the 1980's. At least for women (I don't care what the hell men look like).
Every decade has good and bad fashion. Talking of ’80s women’s hairstyles, remember the revival of the poodle cut? I still think it looks best on poodles.

(Okay, so Olivia Newton-John could get away with it. But then, she would have looked good bald.)

Nothing wrong with that. Women today should try harder to look like this.

THe doctor who performed minor surgery on me was born after Star Wars came out. Yes, I said Star Wars. It was only called Star Wars back in 1977.
