I don't think that it's all that out there for GRRM to have a fictional world which is so "white" considering it's based upon an analogue of the UK during the War of the Roses. During that period in European history, even in the bigger more cosmopolitan cities you would see very few people who were from Sub-Saharan Africa or East Asia.

But there were dragons, giants and zombies though?

I can't say I'm a huge fan of randomly killing characters either, though that seem to have lessened too (probably because they're running out of characters to kill.)

Same here. But, it is fantasy so some characters could come back.

IIRC, the tried pink contact lenses for the Targaryans in the pilot, but decided to not use them since the actors had troubles with them.

One needs to remember that GRRM started the book series in the early 90s, and fantasy fans weren't as accepting then as they are now. For its time, it broke with existing fantasy conventions quite drastically.

It took me a couple of tries to get into GoT, but once I did... holy gnorts! Yes, I enjoy the show. I praise the gods for it, both the old and the new.
