If your CAR was the U.S.S. Enterprise...

I always just use the surface streets as impulse, and the freeways as warp speed. I don't want to deal with the math using the other system.

I call the local freeway an "acceleration corridor," which, so far as I know, is a term of my own coining.

^^Wait a minute. I don't know if that kind of originality is really allowed in a Trek forum.

What do we do if there's a traffic jam? We can't be on impulse speeds in subspace, after all. Tell me what to do!

(By the way, a garage is a docking bay)

^ Right now Stellar Cartography is using the docking bay to store various pieces of space debris which have been collected from various parts of the galaxy.

As I see it, there is a sufficient number of canon reasons why a Starship might be compelled to drop out of warp unexpectedly to explain the occasional (or all to regular) freeway traffic jam. Of course, if you are Ferengi, you can just use the shoulder. :p

I'm sorry to report that the USS Sofia (my vessel) was nearly struck at high warp velocities by a ship that had suddenly dropped several warp factors. When I turned to look, the helmsman was getting some, um, very unethical action from the co-pilot.

Damn, I'm angry right now. If they were in firing position, I would have brought weapons to bear.

I often imagine this. I'm American and my car was built in the US but I live in Canada, so the MPH scale is the "old warp scale" and the km/h scale is the "new warp scale".

Gas stations are outposts.

Hotels are starbases.

Police cars are Romulan vessels.

Semi trailers are freighters.

Tiny cars are shuttlepods.

Unmarked police cars are cloaked Romulan vessels.

I don't have a radar detector, but if I did, that would be the long-range sensor array.

Left is port and right is starboard, of course...

Many years ago I saw a van with shuttlecraft type nacelles on the roof, kind of like the long range shuttle in TAS The Slaver Weapon. It belonged to a company called "Advanced Battery Enterprises", the text was in the Trek title font. The phone number was (818) NCC-1701. ( a different company has that number now so please don't call it )

I took some pictures; if I ever find which shoebox they ended up in I'll scan them and post 'em.

Depending on the state of tune and work being done on my car, it's either the Stargazer or the Defiant.

MPH
1-9 = Auxiliary Thrusters Only
10+ = 1/4 Impulse
20+ = 1/2 Impulse
30+ = 3/4 Impulse
40+ = Full Impulse
55+ = Warp 1
60+ = Warp 2
65+ = Warp 4
70+ = Warp 6
75+ = Warp 8
80+ = Warp 9
85+ = Warp 9.5
90+ = All Good Things must come to an end...
If my car was the Enterprise with such as the speedometer then it would go up to Warp 12 cuz there's sure is a bunch of numbers on my car that the needle will never go up to!

Static on the radio = subspace interference.

Major servicing = refit.

Automatic car wash = baryon particle sweep.

Headlights = short-range sensors.

Licence plate number = registry.

Air conditioner = environmental support system.

Exhaust pipe = aft drive-plasma vent

Gasoline = slush deuterium.

In theory however, using the TNG style of exponentially increasing speeds, you could also assume an algorithm something like this:

MPH/WARP
85 - 9.5
90 - 9.6
100 - 9.7
120 - 9.8
140 - 9.9
150 - 9.91
160 - 9.92
170 - 9.93
180 - 9.94
190 - 9.95
200 - 9.96

In any case, I made the previous outline based on my pickup, which has a speedometer that maxes out at 85. I didn't think broadly enough to include a system for more advanced vehicles.

When I back up out of the driveway, and then put the car into drive, I often find myself saying, "We are clear, and free to navigate."
It drives the kids crazy.

Tractor trailers = freighters & cargo vessels

motorcycles and scooters = fighters

bicycles = shuttles

^ A renegade Ferengi broke through my shields a couple winters ago and stole an expensive shuttle while it was docked a couple years ago. I didn't realize that he had escaped with it until springtime when I wanted to take it out for a spin. Sneaky little creep...

ROFL:techman:

I've been addicted to the Starfleet Command series since it came out 10 years ago, and in that time I've drawn some analogies:

Japanese cars = Klingons
Chrysler corp. cars = Romulans
GM cars = Federation
German cars = Interstellar Concordium
Hyundai = Lyrans
Kia = Mirak/Kzinti
British cars = Hydrans
Ford motor company cars = Gorn

And, I use the 10 mph = WF 1, 20mph = WF2, etc. scale. It makes sense to me because you can go warp 2 on a bike, but not for long (most people), some can run warp 1 (but not for long), and surface road speed limit is typically warp 5.

My ship, the USS Gibraltar (1992 Chevrolet Lumina APV), if we're using the new warp scale, is an original-build-series Miranda-class. 225,000 miles (many many light years lol), wonky transmission (nacelles), and seen lots of abuse before I got it (what Miranda hasn't?)

I'm not getting into a discussion about the quality of car brands, but:
1. I refuse to believe that GM makes Federation ships
2. Heck yeah Ford cars are the Gorn :)

ANYway, in my head, I always just believed that whatever country you call home is the Federation. If you travel to another country in your vessel (and your vessel is Starfleet), then you really are exploring outside of the Federation!

As for my vessel, I captain the USS Sofia, Nissan Sentra class (SR subtype), commissioned 2006, third ship to bear the name. Small, speedy, capable of outmaneuvering larger starships.
