I always just use the surface streets as impulse, and the freeways as warp speed. I don't want to deal with the math using the other system.
I call the local freeway an "acceleration corridor," which, so far as I know, is a term of my own coining.

Fire photon torpedoes!What do we do if there's a traffic jam?
If my car was the Enterprise with such as the speedometer then it would go up to Warp 12 cuz there's sure is a bunch of numbers on my car that the needle will never go up to!MPH
1-9 = Auxiliary Thrusters Only
10+ = 1/4 Impulse
20+ = 1/2 Impulse
30+ = 3/4 Impulse
40+ = Full Impulse
55+ = Warp 1
60+ = Warp 2
65+ = Warp 4
70+ = Warp 6
75+ = Warp 8
80+ = Warp 9
85+ = Warp 9.5
90+ = All Good Things must come to an end...

^ A renegade Ferengi broke through my shields a couple winters ago and stole an expensive shuttle while it was docked a couple years ago. I didn't realize that he had escaped with it until springtime when I wanted to take it out for a spin. Sneaky little creep...
I've been addicted to the Starfleet Command series since it came out 10 years ago, and in that time I've drawn some analogies:
Japanese cars = Klingons
Chrysler corp. cars = Romulans
GM cars = Federation
German cars = Interstellar Concordium
Hyundai = Lyrans
Kia = Mirak/Kzinti
British cars = Hydrans
Ford motor company cars = Gorn
And, I use the 10 mph = WF 1, 20mph = WF2, etc. scale. It makes sense to me because you can go warp 2 on a bike, but not for long (most people), some can run warp 1 (but not for long), and surface road speed limit is typically warp 5.
My ship, the USS Gibraltar (1992 Chevrolet Lumina APV), if we're using the new warp scale, is an original-build-series Miranda-class. 225,000 miles (many many light years lol), wonky transmission (nacelles), and seen lots of abuse before I got it (what Miranda hasn't?)
