If you were the Captain of an Enterprise

If my assignment was Earth, and I'm assuming you as head of Starfleet are assigning me this planet as opposed to a quadrant the first things I would do is:

1. Get Dr. McCoy to come down and show the earth doctors how to cure the major diseases of our time such as cancer, Parkinson's, heart disease, Alzheimer's, so no one ever loses a loved one, a parent or a child to illness.

If we never develop these things for ourselves our drive to create will be seriously hampered. Why do any work when the magic starship in the sky will do it for you?

2. Get Engineering to get onto making emergency replicators to major areas of poverty and begin to feed the hungry.

You're more than likely to have multiple governments object. Are you going to overthrow governments while your at it?

3. Get Weapons Control to disable all earth weapons with magnetic pulses so there will be no more killing.

Also, you'd more than likely fry every electronic device on the planet.

4. Environmental Staff to assess the physical condtion of planet Earth and ask them to repair and replenish any damaged systems.

People need to have the will to do these things themselves or they mean nothing.

5. Get Spock down there to organize a meeting of world leaders and teach them some logic.

Spock would've already relieved you of command by this point.

6. Lock photon torpedos on and blow up Fox News.

Way to turn a second rate news organization into a martyr... creating further division on the planet.

I would aid third world countries. I would aid countries hurt from natural disasters. I would end the Japanese illegal whaling in the anartic whale sancturay. I would come up with a way to slow carbon build up in the atmosphere and slow global warming.

I would also teach Green woman how to love.

Damn BillJ and Finn get off that dude's nuts. Try coming up with your own stuff instead of putting down someone's ideas. This is just a fun what if, don't ruin it for the guy.

A better question might be: if you had knowledge of 23rd century technology and were stranded on 20th century Earth, would you help and if so, what would you do?
Of course I'd help, fuck the 23rd century, if I'm stuck in the 20th and it is my new home why wouldn't I help?
I have no idea what I would do, that depends on my knowledge and probably what allows me to live a better life.

If I had a ship in orbit I'd call all governments and tell them I'm in charge now, all people will get replicators and unlimited energy, I will also provide free health care and future medicine for everyone. When everyone thinks I'm awesome I will be crowned Earth Emperor.

I wouldn't be above Earth. I'd be exploring strange new worlds and teaching green Orion women about love.

I told you exactly what I'd do. If you ask for speculation based on technology from a sci-fi universe... expect answers within the context of that universe. I didn't see anyone putting him down just answering the question within the context of the universe. :p

sorry. came on a bit strong. it just seemed like you guys were telling him everything he wanted to change was either impossible or stupid.

If I just found myself on the Enterprise in orbit and in control of it (say no on else is aboard), it might sound blasphemous, but I would probably pull a Henry Starling (Future's End) and tear the Enterprise apart to reverse engineer everything about it that I could.

The stuff in the main computer memory would be especially interesting.

2. Get Engineering to get onto making emergency replicators to major areas of poverty and begin to feed the hungry.

Because what the poor really need is to be more dependent on someone.

But weapons are what good people use to keep the bad people away.

6. Lock photon torpedoes on and blow up Fox News.
The news corp building is in central Manhattan, besides without Fox News who would tell you the truth that you don't what to hear?

:):):)

I like it. Although I am not "head of Starfleet" and you are a civilian, because then you don't have to obey the Prime directive. Although there maybe a better way with the weapons then magnetic pulses.

as for some of the comments opposed to what you said, not sure they would actually be totally correct on every aspect. For example I think people would be pretty happy there were no wars and everyone was healthy and had food. Which would allow people to focus on better things for the future.

I wouldn't do anything. I'd just point and laff.

I guess I'm not Starfleet material...

No wait, I got it. I would call a press conference to tell everyone I'm from the future, where all humans are commie atheists. Present-day humans should now stop all their fighting, since they know who wins in the end.

I started thinking about all the wonderful things I could do to help humanity, but in the end, I must face the facts: I'd probably find a safe place to park the ship and then just live out the rest of my life in the holodeck (assuming it could stay powered that long). Sorry, humanity!

I would explore strange new worlds. I would seek out new life and new civilizations. I would boldly go where no one has gone before. It may seem simplistic, but much more fun than trying to change/rule Earth.

I'd glass the planet. :p Cynicism aside, I'd probably beam down the newest scientific and medical equipment to help society advance a bit.

Right becuase the poor children don't need anybody to feed them, give them shelter, or to live at all. Or do you think only adults can be poor.

Weapons keep bad poeple away? He's not saying wipe out actual guns, which wars are fought with. He's talking about Nuclear Weapons, which not only destroy us, but Earth, so that no biological species are left alive. So taking out atomic weapons, is actually a good thing. Because no matter the country, if they have nuclear weapons ready to fire, they are not the good guys. but no the bad guys never get bad weapons. OH wait- Iran, North Korea, the Black market itself, Yeah these people don't get a sense of power when having one of these.

Fox news tells you the truth only when its reporting on a car chase. Their private shows, Glenn Beck, Hannity, Pretty much all of them, only give an extremely bias view of what they think is reality. So yes away with Fox news, or atleast Glenn Beck's and Sarah Palin's trailer.

The same thing that Kirk and crew did in Assignment:Earth, before Gary Seven made his appearance. Historical research from a non-interference viewpoint.

And bring back a cure for all forms of carcinoma(cancer).

I am sorry T-girl are you talking to me or referencing someone else?
If its me, I have no Idea what that is, atleast not by name.

I believe she is talking about Sarah Palin which you mentioned in your previous post.
