If You Were Kirk's Uncle

I'd probably leave it alone and give him some space. He's James Tiberius Kirk, He'd kick my ass; I don't care how young he is.

In the original time line, when young Jimmy Kirk had destroyed, his dad antique car. He brought him on the Enterprise, with Star Fleet and Captain April permission, and had him do work on the ship, to pay back for the damages of the car and as a punishment. In the original time line. Young Jimmy Kirk took car, so he could use it to take him to Star Fleet, so can ask his dad to take him on board the Enterprise. Because he didn't want to stay with his abusive uncle.

In the original timeline, Jimmy didn't know how to drive.

Indeed, as proven in A Piece of the Action.

Now, thanks to Abrams it would seem A Piece of the Action can't happen in this new timeline. Curse you Abrams, you have raped my childhood by ignoring this integral TOS episode which had so much depth and complexity.

Personally, I'd be more concerned about the sudden appearance of this giant gaping canyon in the middle of Iowa than what to do to the kid who drove the car into it. Where the hell did that thing come from?
The canyon was an old quarry according to the novel.

That is why the car was destroy. He didn't know how to drive. How many 12 year old can drive? Also, he being a farm boy. It is likely that he did knew how to drive a car.

Hey, he was actually able to get this car to move. That's more than he accomplished in A Piece of the Action. Canon Violation, I say. Canon Violation!

Also, in A Piece of the Action. He knew that he had to press the starter button to start the car.

"Dammit little Jimmy, that's it!! We're sending you to Starfleet, maybe they can make a man of you."

Didn't Spock mention that Kirk dad help him to get into Starfleet? Maybe Starfleet had a program that accept 12 year old? Remember, he had the rank of Ensign as a first year cadet.

The canyon is the future site of the shipyard where the Enterprise would soon be built. (The walls are clearly artificial.)

Does the novel specifically say he is a drunk and beats kids/women?

Far as I'm concerned, it doesn't need to...just listen to how the asshole sounded over the car's radio.

I'd be sounding pretty similar to him if a little prick like that drove off with my classic car....and I don't beat women and children. He didn't sound like a wifebeater to me...just a guy really getting tired of dickhead like young Kirk screwing up.
