Or would have, had it been his car. It wasn't. It was Kirk's father's. I would expect Mrs. Kirk to be plenty pissed at her son for this. Since the car belonged to her first husband, who is now dead, the car should be hers to do with as she wished. She's the one who has the right to be mad. I'll tell ya one thing; if one of my stepkids destroyed my Dodge Challenger, they could not imagine the hell there would be to pay. For the rest of my life, the kid would be paying for it. After all, Kirk showed no respect for whoever owned the vehicle. I couldn't hang with that.
