There would be a little shock, some skepticism about the scale but between the 2008 financial collapse and fears of global warming (definitely happening and may happen severely sooner than we think) a lot of people did and would believe catastrophe can happen to us suddenly.

Imagine going back to 2015 and telling them Donald Trump would be president.

I think back then it was clear that a lot of people were tired of Bushes and Clintons (already his current/most likely opponents) and NAFTA/TPP so room, opportunity for an outsider.

I don't think after you'd terrified our past selves with the details of COVID that they'd believe we'd be in an ongoing battle with countless millions who have determined their vague, poorly defined concerns over the potential long-term effects of a life saving vaccine are of greater concern than the immediate thing that could kill them.

I would suggest that anybody who's spent a non-trivial amount of time on the internet would not only believe it, they'd predict it.

20 dollars at the race track can easily turn into a few million in weeks, if you don't disrupt the timeline.

Although you have to keep your wins low, so you don't have to name your self to the book, for taxation reasons, if you don't have id in the past that isn't you in the past, depending on if you and you are in cahoots or not.

You would first though need to collect some old money in the present to take back to the future because how would even come up with 20 dollars other than to steal it. Which if you get caught opens you up to a big problem what with no ID and maybe the track down your past self. Though it might be better to just bring stuff from the future back and pawn it at pawn shops then use that money to go make low level bets. Of course all of this is time consuming. It might take you a year or more to build up enough money to invest. But still you then need to find a place to live. Hotels will ask for things like a credit card. If you want to drive you need a drivers license. Sooner or later you will need to bring in a guy or form a crew in order to get things done and a crew that won't ask to many questions.

I was just thinking this while chatting to people. What would people make of us if we went back to 2018 and told everyone what the last 2 years has been like and what has happened in the world with things like covid and such do you think they'd take any of it seriously?

I wouldn't believe me. I was invested in fighting climate change and Trump's daily outrages. My parents were already nuts, so they'd believe it was some kind of conspiracy, no problem.
