If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would you do

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

I would go back and kill Jesus.

Just to be a dick.

And to see if I could.

And to see if he'd come back to life.

And if he didn't, to see how history would be different.

No matter what happens, I figure it's win-win.

This is why it's a good thing that we don't have time machines. :borg:

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

well, shit, just go back and kill Moses. or Abraham. get rid of all three Abrahamic religions and done with it.

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

Moses and Abraham were just guys. There's no question I could kill them.

As Samuel L Jackson might put it: the point is to see if God will come down here, and stop those motherfuckin' bullets.

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

Without 9/11, the entire season 3 of Enterprise would have been totally different, for starters. Same goes for 24, NCIS, and a lot of other shows. Movies that never were made (True Lies 2) or very differently than intended. Springsteen would have never released The Rising.

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

I'd do a Hot Tub (as bad as that movie was for the most part) and get myself an early start with Google, Facebook or even Microsoft way back and then relax and lay back.. maybe restart and fund Firefly just for shits and giggles (but then we wouldn't have got Castle.. damn time travelling! ;)).

On a halfway more serious note.. tell my young self to quit being so lazy and be more disciplined. It has cost me a bit in life.. could have been worse but could have also be way better.

I'd not even try to change major events.. who'd believe an unimportant person like me that terrorists are about to steer some planes into some buildings or that a failed artist whi hates Jews would plunge the world into a horrible world war.

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

:( Easy. I'd go back in time to the early 1950s, and, if I had such powers of persuasion, I'd murder the leader of the CIA if I couldn't convince him that Operation Ajax was insanity. :( :( You stop operation Ajax, you change all of history concerning Middle Eastern relations with the west. You stop operation Ajax, 9/11 never happens. :( :(

Or I'd prevent Hitler's mother from meeting his father.

I think all you would have had to do was to claim there were four bombs aboard the planes.

Whoa, how do you make a grammatically correct sentence about stuff like that?

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

I wouldn't go back to change anything major, like saving JFK or making phone calls a day ahead of 9/11 about hijacked jets going to attack the WTC towers, because in all likelihood it wouldn't work anyway.

Assuming we go back in time to fix something and then continue from that point, I'd have taken that job opportunity at Yahoo! in 1996, cashed out at the high, then went to go work for Google in 2000. Instead, I moved back East for a start-up that really didn't pan out. Plus... I really missed living in California.

Also, I'd make a phone call to a certain friend on the morning of a specific day, to change their course and prevent their untimely death.

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

The way to prevent 9/11 would be to actually let the planes take off, with the hitchhikers on board...but have all the other passengers replaced by armed federal marshals. Not only that, but subsequently make it clear to Al Qaeda that you knew exactly what moves they would make. Let the bastards worry about that for the rest of their lives. They'd be too scared to ever try anything again.

I've heard the like suggested before...

Grammar and time travel don't mix.

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

What we need is a new tense. Something like 'Present Past Future Perfect' or the like. Maybe 'Future Past Continuous'?

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

I'd go back to just before the origin of organic molecules, ejaculate into the primordial ooze and become the Intelligent Designer.

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

I'd try not to change anything, but if I fucked up and screwed the proverbial granny...

All bets are off, I'm aiming for my perfect world. My past is dead anyway. If it turns out I can't actually change anything. Time Travel tourism seems like the business of the future/past whatever.

I would keep my mind as is and transform back to 7th grade and try again. Then mabe id be going somewhere.

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

In any case, there are much better things to do in the past than trying to fix the world's problems.

Like riding the Kings River Flume!

[yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Way8LI2Jgd4[/yt]

If I could travel back in time
I'd go to 1899
High in the Sierra Hills
And ride the lumber down the Sanger flume

The flume
Ride the flume
Ride the flume
Ride the flume
Watch out for that tree

Forget log rides in amusement parks
This one's 50 miles long
Water slide with four foot sides
Down the mountain, 60 miles an hour

Drop through the Devil's Slide
Four thousand feet in 13 miles
Miss a curve, ya sail into space
Hope them 2 x 4's don't break

The flume
Ride the flume
Ride the flume
Me and you
Va-va-voom!

Watch out for that tree
Watch out for that tree!

Around
Around
To the sides of the cliffs we cling

The trestle creaks
As we're swept across the canyon
100 feet below
Rickety timbers - please don't fail me now

Oh no...

Watch out for that tree
Watch out for that tree
Or it's pine cone sex face first
For you and me.

OhmyGod, Gov Kodos, I actually thought about that clip from "All in the Family" after 9/11, thinking how tragically ironic that what was meant to be portrayed as lunacy might not be so "out there" after all in this new world.
