If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go with ?

It doesn't have to be only scifi and/or fantasy (but it's fine if it is), but if you could create your own scripted or
non-scripted TV show what (serious or humorous) concept would it have and what would you name the show.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

A musical TV show about a Beach Volleyball team made up of lesbian vampires who solve mysteries and fight crime.

I don't have a catchy name for it yet but have the tag line: They have the balls to take a bite out of crime! :p

Seriously, I'd like to put together a show in Australia that isn't a cop show...apart from soap operas the only thing that they produce locally here are cop shows. It would be a comedy show and I'd like to work with Shaun Micallef as a writer (and maybe an actor as well if he wants) because I really like that comedy stuff he does.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

Mmm, yeah. I don't have to put together my own TV show, I'm doing it all the time. :)

-- a drama (miniseries) about a fictitious pioneering family, and what happens when the family has no more members alive, what happens to their history, their possessions, when they're gone? A journalist is hired to investigate, and finds out more than he thought he would.

-- an alternate Australia, where from 1975 to 1988, a fascist government was in control. This is not about that, but about police investigating the missing people that turn up, tracking down the criminals still running. (There's more to it than that, but that's the basics. It's a kind of a cop show, but it's more about missing persons).
(Fun fact: in 1932 a group of 'concerned citizens ' approached General Sir John Monash to form a solid government like those sensible chappies Mussolini and Hitler had done. Monash, you may have realised, declined).

(The above two are being sent to various production companies to see if I can get them under way, as the ABC is aware of them and thinks they're "really interesting".)

-- imagine a bunch of multigenerational ships were sent out into the galaxy, then the Earth fell into chaos. When it all starts working again, they also have FTL drive. A ship goes out exploring, trying to find the multigen ships and if necessary bring them home.

-- a series that does, in a sociological sense, what Eureka does in a scientific sense. A town is manipulated into trying future trends in community and society.

I have a couple more, but I'm reluctant to discuss them. They're good. Or have the potential to be good. :)

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

a series about a black ops counter-terror unit like The Unit, but based on the UK Special Forces and better than that Ultimate Force pap.

that or a nice retro-50s-homage SF space opera. something FUN, not serious and thus deathly dull.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

A teen girl's day to day life told through her active imagination...kinda like Sucker Punch but not so grim. :p

You would see the realism, the day dream and then the total fantasy.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

^ I could see something like that working.

I'd thought of something like that too. Like those old TV shows, with the stiff upper lip attitude, but done with modern effects.

I think you need to check your sources.

Sir John Monash died in October 1931. The Nazis did not seize power until 1933. And Monash was Jewish. So that must have been a pretty stupid bunch of concerned citizens, if they wanted him to follow Hitler's example.

I'm not saying that the incident you describe didn't happen. US Marine Major General Smedley Butler was approached by a similar group of "concerned citizens" in the States. But I think some of the facts got tangled up along the way, and you might want to straighten them out if this is part of your pitch to production companies.

On the OT: If I could create my own TV show, I'd adapt Dashiell Hammett's Continental Op stories, the same way the BBC did for Sherlock Holmes. There are thirty-six stories, so it would run for three seasons of twelve episodes, or six seasons of six.

1. A new Star Trek series, back to the basics, crew going boldly, not Kirk & Spock but Starfleet based in the 23rd C, ideally on Showtime, with a moderate increase in sex and violence over what we're used to, but not to usual premium cable levels (which would be too much of a tonal break with the past).

2. A show set about 100 years in the future on Earth, in which genetic engineering and cybernetics are causing the human race to split into de-factor different species. (Heroes, but with more of a science foundation, and not superhero-based.)

3. A show about 18th C pirates, especially based on the lives of Anne Bonny, John Rackham and Mary Read. (I've read rumors that a show like this may be in the works.)

Live-action Star Wars (which started out as retro-50s-homage SF space opera, well actually delving back to the 30s but it's the same general idea)!

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

^like that, but without the quasi-mystical Force stuff and set in our galaxy and with at least a modicum of realism - like we only visit K and G type stars and not everyone speaks English and not every planet's a single-environment...

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

I'd create a radically realistic show about homeless people and sell it to HBO.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

Are you talking about the Flash Gordon/Buck Rogers style of space opera from the 30s-50s? That's "Star Wars without the Force" (setting aside Lucas' woebegon attempts to ape the Star Trek style of political and social relevance in the PT.) ;)

Flash Gordon/Buck Rogers could work fine without the Force. That's what Farscape essentially was. But that did have some "serious" elements as well, and that's probably necessary to avoid seeming too unsophisticated. The Farscape baddies were serious threats, not Ming the Merciless style campfests, and the character relationships were emotionally real.

Skiffy attempted to do a relatively straight-up Flash Gordon remake. It flopped hard, and deserved to.

I'd create a radically realistic show about homeless people and sell it to HBO.

That is a good idea!

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

I'd create a fictionalized version of "Victory At Sea" set in modern times and depicting contemporary and near future naval combat. Something like Australia's "Sea Patrol" but starring the US Navy (which would give me aircraft carriers to use! MWAHAHAHA!).

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

I'd make a space sci-fi series.

May 14th, 2013. Surprise invasion by an alien race known as the Elysium. Nations rally together to try and stop it, but are unable to. World leaders make a gamble: and believe they only want the earth for it's resources. Communication is opened, and world leaders threaten to use their nuclear arsenals to make the earth barren and useless. Discussions open, and a settlement is reached: human lives will be spared, but must serve the new order, as Earth will be turned into a ship yard.

As a means to that end, Earth is given an extensive technological makeover, including fusion power and other new sciences. Existing militaries and governments are disassembled. National boundaries become meaningless, as does money. Poverty is also ended. Quality of life is improved for many ordinary people, even though humanity has technically become a slave race.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

There were rumors of a premium cable series that cast Kevin Spacey as a cult leader. I guess it's dead but I really wanted to see that one.

Other never-made shows that I wanted to see:

Revolution - Earth colony rebels against the mother planet. Had a cool cast, including Bill Campbell and Peter Fonda.

Beyond
- Realistic, near-future series about a manned mission to Mars.

Speaking of Mars, I'd go for any Mars-colony series.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

-A series about a predominantly female starship crew that become unlikely heroes in a tough, alien-controlled sector of the Galaxy.

-A "what if?" series set in an alternate reality in the present-day where America remained under British control.

-A historical fiction series about an all-black fighter squadron during World War II based loosely on the Tuskegee Airmen.

-A sitcom about New York meter maids and the occasionally strange and wacky people they run into everyday both on and off the clock.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

I have two.

1. "Favorite Son" It's a Cop show about a native American police officer, who returns to the reservation he grew up on because of the murder of his father, who was police chief of the reservation. He returns and lives with his grandfather who tries to get him back to the old ways, but he is reluctant. The mystery of his fathers death will be woven through out the show.

2. "PR" is a drama set in a large PR firm in LA. It will tell the story of Sydney, joining her fathers PR firm and handling high profile clients. This show will allow for real high profile movie/sports/literary stars to guest star every week.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

I'd write my own sitcom about a foul mouthed toilet that can talk and call it Talking Toilet.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

A reality dating show :)..I love watching those :)..So I also want to create that :)

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

A CBS cop show. I'd be rolling in the billions.
