If You Had a Starship...

This is of course a exercise in mental-masturbation at it's finest...

If you had a space-ship/star-ship with technology from any of the Star Trek series, as well as technology currently available, what kind of design would you cook up?

Also, let's assume you could, should you chose, perform time-warps which you could go back in time and slide into a parallel universe simultaneously, so fiddling with history would not directly affect you as you were not part of that universe.

What would you do?

^hmmm, first thing, I would use the med center to bring myself to the peak of physical perfection. Of which I am far from now.

My first thing too.

Second: Use my Sovereign-class ship's sensors to completely map the Earth in high-definition including the ocean floor. Finding all of the cool shipwrecks and nasty terrorists. (Transports the terrorists to an altitude of 20 miles)

Third: Have the ship's computer design and replicate orbital satellites that can record the Earth and it's occupants in detail for at least 100 years. Then go back in time in 100 year increments to deploy and retrieve the strings of satellites that are cloaked in Earth's orbit. They would record all of human history with extra emphasis on certain historical events. I.E. Titanic disaster, Pearl Harbor attack, earthquakes, volcanoes, Jesus' execution, building of Rome, Athens, and the Pyramids.

And absolutely no contact with the surface at all. No cloaked away teams either. And the satellites are designed to avoid any meteroids bound for Earth. The last thing you'd want is to beam down an away team to watch the execution of Jesus and have one of them accidentally replace him. To be beamed out of his tomb after the crucifixion. And then you come back and everyone believes that Jesus Christ was really a spaceman from the future. Oops!

If I had a star-ship?
I'd set a course to explore the galaxy and get the heck out of the solar system at maximum Warp/Slipstream without ever to return (of course I might decide to bring along several people who are willing to come and aren't of the sheep mentality a great deal of what we call 'society' is).

When I was younger my day dream went something like this:
1) clone myself many, many, times
2) to populate a cloaked spacedock
3) in which I'd hatch my plan to save the world
4) I'd slingshot cloaked, self-replicating, drones back in time
5) recording an analyzing all human history
6) meantime, I'd abduct/interview everyone currently alive
7) combine the two sets of info
8) go back to before the abducting began
8) appear, explain, and tell everyone the best way to live their lives
9) and how history, now, life, the universe really are
10) provide a 2001-like monolith for each person
11) to protect them on their journey
12) and inform them as they plan the future
13) merge all the me's, and destroy all unnecessary tech
14) unless my future recon showed horrible things
15) in which case I'd try over again and again and again and again
16) hey, there's millions, maybe billions, of me
17) worst case scenario: I scrap the plan from the start
18) save for the historical recordings
19) my automated fleet will guard this solar system
20) until people are ready to rise for themselves
21) I'll be exploring space and time, and the holodeck, and the unknown possibilities of existence.

I'd probably go straight to the holodeck and live out a couple of sports-related phantasies, like playing professional soccer for my favorite team in front of 60000 people.

I know, it's kind of uninspired, but I reckon that's what I would do. :p

- Sell holodeck technology, first as a public forum, then personal holosuites, similar to personal computers (specially designed for home or personal use).

- Use the Defiant-class' sensors, map the Earth and all objects in the solar system, and have my own Google Earth lol. I'd upload it online, and people can download it for free.

- Set up my own hospital, and use sick-bay instruments to cure severe diseases. I'd invite all persons in the world with a severe disease to beam up, and get treatment.

- Hand replicators to famine zones, and set up a scheme in which all persons in the world can enter, for trips to Proxima Centauri, Vega, Wolf 359, Barnard's Star and all local stars in our region of the galaxy.

i'd torpedo american cities from orbit

I live in one of those American cities. My starship destroys yours. Then I go to Risa.

"21) I'll be exploring space and time, and the holodeck, and the unknown possibilities of existence. "
Exploring the holodeck: "Big door with computer panel. Four walls, a ceiling and a floor covered with blinky things. What do all of these blinkies do?"

fine, my plan of blowing up america's dumb, it seemed funny while drunk.

but, You get your own spaceship! why does everyone want to jump straight into the holodeck?

OK; I spare your ship.
The holodeck would be a useful place to playback or remote view historical events from a bird'seye perspective. Imagine hovering above the pyramids as they are being constructed.
And I think I'd change beaming the terrorists 50 miles into space. I'd think beaming them 1000 feet above a active volcanic caldera would be sufficent. I'd want them to be conscious and eyes wide open.
Then I'd go to Risa.

Just give me a Nova-class ship and crew, point me to someplace that's mysterious, and then watch my warp trail...

I'd take a Constitution class starship visually modeled after the NCC-1701-A, and incorporate the more modern technology from the Sovereign class starship design. Just for the sake of personal preference.

Using that technology I'd do a few things that people have suggested, but in a slightly different way.

Although I realize that changing history can have drastic effects on the future, I'd like to see the "what-if" scenarios that would unfold. Go back in time and ensure Hitler is dispensed with before he can rally an uprising in Germany. This would save the lives of many millions of people. But... this would mean those people get to live and have children... which would of course mean that a great many people born today might not exist at all, or in very different circumstances. For the better? I would be interesting to see what would come of it. I'm assuming it might make for a rather drastically different world. Better? I don't know. But I'd deploy special cloaked satellites as others have mentioned that would record life on Earth for the next 100 years. I'd leap forward, collect the data, make personal observations of any drastic changes, then go back in time to "undo" the change if it didn't end up much better than before. Otherwise, I'd let it be...

I would also go back in time to save President John F. Kennedy and his brother Robert. And of course, Dr. Martin Luther King. I know that would change lives too, but in a far more beneficial way, I think. I'd also find a way to prevent the uprising of mass chaos in Afghanistan that would lead to jihad fanatics, so that we wouldn't have a 9/11. I'd continue on trying to locate various events like this in the more developed nations and prevent assassinations of important people, or foil planned terrorist actions (with culprits getting caught, so at least people are aware and don't get too lax).

I'd then take a break and travel with my starship, and select crew, to visit various worlds having the potential for life and see if there really is any intelligent life out there.

Introducing starship technology to the people of Earth would be a mistake at this time, due to the primitive levels of society (power hungry people are everywhere, ready to exploit something like this). But I'd try using the ships resources to help avert disasters on Earth, kind of like a superman... who's made of flesh but has a starship. :)

if I could go back in time to change one thing. I'd appear, beginning with Moses, to a few select important people of the various faiths as a prophet of God. I'd tell them the most important commandment of all: THALL SHALT NOT KILL IN THE NAME OF RELIGION. Then I'd return periodically and enforce it.
