If you could step into the Star Trek universe, what's the first thing you would do?

Go to the nearest uninhabited M-class planet within subspace range, go backpacking via hovercraft across a continent surveying like Lewis and Clark.

Stardate 1312.4

For this purpose, I'm a high-rated esper and I'm on the Enterprise heading through the barrier in WNMHGB. And I won't make the same mistakes Mitchell does...

That question was already answered in Past Tense.

I suppose the first thing I'd do is fine out what kind of educational programs are afforded to humans of the past such as myself who are a little behind on history, and figure it out from there. Probably see if there's a way I can get a position on a community ship and explore.

We've got the sancturary districts to look forward to. Then things will pick up slightly, at least domestically, before a nice big world war towards the end of our lives. Trek history for people who grew up with TNG and DS9 is not a pretty sight.

First stop, Starfleet Medical for me and my family for major overhauls. Then I'd like to study history and culture of all the different worlds.

I would probably go to the TNG era and do the ubiquitous Starfleet Medical checkup and get my ailments fixed - thankfully I have few but still.

Then as for a career that's tough...I'm 40 years old now. So on the one hand if I could do things over in my life I would try to become a Doctor. I think I would be good at it and it pays a lot of money so why not swing for the fences. I assume in Star Trek universe I would live long enough and the schooling would be free that I could do it. But since I also wouldn't get paid (I assume) why put myself through all that stress when I could just be some low skill job and get just fine. I like making things so maybe I would make hand made furniture. I would enjoy that, people might dig old time furniture made by a 21st century person and I don't have to worry about starving to death or being homeless so I can take that kind of risk.

Edit: Anyway the cool thing is that you can really do what you enjoy and not have to worry about basic necessities like food and a shelter.

Maybe...I hope that visit to starfleet medical makes me feel like I am 20 again. I was typing that and thinking of pulling those long hours medical student do and then my sore back and knees which is why I reconsidered.

I go back to just before TNG, go to a 2361 Federation bicentennial event, learn something of the Standard language they speak outside of North America so I don't always rely on the UT and my kids, and take a job building physics experiments.

Great idea.... it would be awesome to see how instrumental the economic policies of President Trump's glory years led to the financial success, stability and progress that leads to Star Trek and the rolling back of the divisive, propaganda filled brainwashing that was threatening human cvilization at the time. ;)

Also might explain how the human race seems to be majority white in the future. ;)

As in, health care that has nothing to do with the Federation?
The characters usually brag that disease and poverty has been eliminated on Earth. I take that to mean healthcare is of good quality and free in the Federation, or at least on Earth/Human colonies.

Oh, it's downright miraculous at times, sure. It's just that the word placement of "Federation Free Health Care" sounds like healthcare that's separate from what the Federation provides, even if the Federation provides top notch quality. "Keep gov't hands off my medicare!"

Got a thing for shrooms, do ya?
Hmmm... how did those quotes end up together, in that order?
