If You Could Rewrite DS9

B5 is a good show, and the main arc is awesome, but budget isn't close to being its main problem. Standalone episodes tended to be very weak. The quality of dialog is extremely spotty and most of their attempts at humor were sophomoric. Other than the excellent main arc, the show was average at best.

I've just never been able to get through season 1 of B5. I've been tempted to tough it out, but so many people say that the final season is weak and that is kind of a dealbreaker for me with a highly serialized story.

Please. I was never wild about Deep Space Nine to begin with but Babylon 5, even with a lesser budget, just blows it clear out of the water.
B5 was good , but ...

1. Acting was wooden.
2. Dialogue was generally stilted.
3. Stories could be a forced march.
4. Primitive computer graphics were overused.

And the arc was fine, but Peter Jackson ended up doing it better.

Now if there had been a G'Kar-Londo road movie. ...

I started watching B5 twice. The second time I forced myself to watch through season 2 before I stopped. The characters were stereotypes, the acting generally poor, the humor wasn't especially funny. Some good ideas for an arc, but someone else should have carried them out.

It's like gambling in a casino, the trick is knowing when to stop.

In season five, when John Sheridan becomes the President of the Interstellar Alliance, and Elizabeth Lochley replaces him as the station's third commander, stop.

In ten years it will be more convincing, whether they're encouraging or discouraging.

I've heard the same about STD, but I'm still not convinced.

I don't think you'll ever be convinced as long as you call it that, instead of DSC or DISCO.

As an example, as long as you call people deragotary names, it cleary indicates that you're not willing to examine their merits objectively. History is filled with instances of that.

The only thing I didn't like about B5 was the budget.

I would have given more time to people like Dukat, Weyoun, and Gowron, the great villains of the series.
Gowron??? A great villain??? Gowron's villainy falls more into comic relief; his decisions are strategically stupid beyond belief. I think Gowron made a great ally in TNG than a great villain in Star Trek.
