If You Could Rewrite DS9

Being on a space station is absolutely one of the things I would NOT change. Hard to improve on the overall vision of DS9 but there's definitely some tweaks to be made here and there.

-First and foremost, Bashir is not a genetic augment, he's just a super talented doctor.
-Bajoran males are less boring.
-There are more Federation starships posted around DS9.
-No war with Klingons, that was a weak excuse to bring Worf into the case (Though I would keep Worf). Maybe they attempt to drive a wedge between the Federation and Kronos but Kronos isn't quite so idiotic about it and questions the whole thing more.
-The Dominion is as it was originally imagined, a version of the Federation that's totalitarian. It's not made up of three races, it's made up of many many races.
-Federation victory is not dependent on Prophet interference.

"Chekov's pride" is some kind of running joke and so is his ridiculous accent. Who would systematically replace "V"s by "w"s and "w"s by "V"s? It's either stupid or to be taken with a grain of salt. Plus I don't think that Chekov really believes that the Russians invented Whisky...

As for the Vulcans, as far as I know, they've never been identified as a race of humans, maybe you have different info on that than I do.

The MU really bugs me. They all live very different lives, yet for centuries they managed to meet, marry the same people and have the exact same children with them, except for Jake's mother who didn't have a child in the MU. and that just shows how stupid it is to expect for everyone to have a double in the MU. Say if Jake meets a woman in the RU and has children with her. In the MU that woman will either remain childless or have children with someone else and that means that the number of discrepancies will increase exponentially from this point on and yet we're supposed to believe that EVERYONE but Jake has a double in the MU!!!

That's not just Trek, but any show/movie that works with alternate universes/timelines somehow manages to have all the people from the regular reality come together--they did it in NuTrek having the convoluted notion that they were somehow all at the Academy together at the same time, except for Scotty who they just happen to pick up on their travels.

There's no double of Keiko and Molly, no Martok, no Winn, no Kasidy, no Dukat, et al.

As for the Vulcans, as far as I know, they've never been identified as a race of humans, maybe you have different info on that than I do.

Spock faced prejudice for who and what he was, from other Vulcans because of his hybrid nature and from the like of McCoy for being more Vulcan than human, though perhaps 'speciesism' might be a term that could be used.

Yes, you're right, I forgot about O'brien's family as well. Though Keiko and Martok could still exist but somewhere else, leading different lives, according to the show I mean.

It all shows how absurd and highly unstable a "mirror" universe would be. How many people do we meet by pure chance and we wouldn't have met if a little detail was changed?

Look, it was a badly thought out line. It was out of character for a Human Starfleet officer (of any race) of the 24th century to of said something like that. It just doesn't fit the culture of Humanity that the show established.

It should never have come out of Sisko's mouth.

Let's have some fun and work out how we could change things about this show and make it better.

I for one think it should have been on a starship. Being on a station was limited.

After season 3 I would've never had a War, knowing full well Bajor would be in the line of fire. I would've had disputes with the Dominion but it wouldn't stop the gallant crew of Deep Space Nine in exploring the Gamma Quadrant. Maybe even have a crossover story with Voyager where an anomaly gets them together. I would've revisted the Tosk Hunter aliens and create a crisis which can be explored.

Have stories where Cardassians and Bajorans wish to journey into the Gamma Quadrant and find a planet where they can start a pioneering life there. I would've had some interesting plans with Gul Dukat, and his endeavor to conquer regions of the Gamma Quadrant for his own dastardly appetites.

Garak, Odo, and Quark learn of a Ferengi militia... sorry, I think I've given enough ideas for the host to digest.

I waited nearly twenty-five years to jump in because I was a Trek snob. Between it and some other shows, it truly opened my eyes to how unimaginative the Star Trek spinoffs are.

Plenty of Trek alumni are involved. Harlan Ellison, DC Fontana, Vaughn Armstrong and even Majel Barrett.
