If you could make a wish as to new books.....

I really am surprised we haven't gotten more of them in the books.

Anytime, Sir. BTW, just re-read Articles of the Federation awhile back (always seems to happen around the same time I do a rewatch of The West Wing for some reason...), and would really love to see more stuff in that vein.
Thank you so very much, and I can't imagine why a rewatch of The West Wing would prompt a reread of Articles. *whistles innocently*

I'm currently reading the Gorkon novels. The characters are so alive and well written. You brought us the Klingon culture nearer like no one else.
I liked how Goran gave his best in the contest - still being the loser in the end despite a great performance. Klingons usually don't take losing well.
As to Goran's size: I remember the Klingon towering over Worf and Crusher when the latter scanned his shuttle. Goran should also be portrayed by a Basketball player......:D :klingon:
marlboro was correct, Goran is the Klingon that Andre the Giant would play. :)

:: shreds outline for Darth Vader/Six Million Dollar Man crossover novel ::

My God, what have I done?

I've ruined the only chance I'll ever have to see Steve Austin and Chewbacca team-up against Darth Vader and the robot Sasquatch. :wah:

Them! (1954)
Ah. The movie about (to invoke a pun from an old DePatie-Freleng "And and the Aardvark" cartoon), the GI-ants. Never saw it. Never had the inclination to see it.

(I'm reminded of a running joke at my old high school, about the A/V equipment room being infested with an ant. A 12-pound ant. Thanks for the trip down memory lane; that was forty years ago.)

As I scan the Wikipedia article, I see that there's a large sugar theft involved. Hmm. "I've never seen sugar do that!"

Yeah, I agree. Certainly saying you'd like to see another New Frontier novel for instance isn't a story idea, or even a sequel to another story, or saying you'd like to see a story with a character like Jack Crusher.

I think dangerous territory would be something like saying "I'd like to see this character do this thing because of this happening on a planet that reminds them of this past event".

Exactly - you can use this post as a yardstick for whether you need to spoiler code your idea with a warning (or not post it at all)

Yep. Most giant monster movies from that era would either have a great looking monster and a crappy cast, or a decent cast and a crappy monster. Them! is one that got the mix just right.

A Star Trek anthology comic book, in the style of Batman 66 or the Bob Gale Back to the Future ongoing with standalone stories across the whole franchise.
More Myriad Universe stories.

I'd wish for some Lost Era Enterprise-B & C novels especially a story set on the E-C not longer after "Well of Souls" - there was such an interesting crew on board then, and they were just coming together and getting to know each other.
I'd also like another "Lives of Dax" anthology (one of my very favourite Trek books), and maybe a "Lives of Gard" (Gard being the joined serial killer investigator specialist), too. Speaking of Dax, an Aventine novel would be nice.
And, in the vein of Worlds of DS9, a Worlds of TNG: Betazed - I'd really like to find out more about how a telepathic society might work, and a bit of Betazed's history (perhaps featuring the woman who put a stop to the use of caged animals in high-society ladies' giant wigs? :))

Oh, and while I'm at it, I'd wish for Star Trek: The Unseen Frontier Declassified Images from the History of the Federation to be published. And a pony!

^ Oh, yes,
I wonder how long the moratorium on joining lasted? And what did the Annuated and Symbionts think of not having the opportunity to be joined?

P.S. Great thread, @Kilana2!

And I really do want to see more Piper novels.

Bleah.

Piper is the textbook example of a Mary Sue. Best to avoid that.

And I hate to keep harpping on this (that's a complete lie, BTW, I love harping on this): Give us a World War III series, dammit! :scream:

We know next to nothing about the war - who started it, who the other factions are, how it ended, how Earth recovered so quickly, etc. It's basically a blank slate.

Pretty much all we DO know is that one of the factions was the Eastern Coalition, and that the war took place in 2053. Oh, and Colonel Green was involved. That's IT. Novelists would have carte blanche to do whatever they wanted.

Hell, we don't even know what the "Eastern" part of ECON even means. East of what? Eastern US? Eastern Hemisphere? (actually lthe latter is more likely, because in the audio commentary for the ST:FC DVD, they say the ECON was originally supposed to be China. It would explain the courtroom scene in "Encounter at Farpoint"...)

I'll go ahead and concede upfront that this idea wouldn't sell, but what the heck.

A while back JD posted a thread titled "Best Books for Each Series' Major Characters." At the time I first saw his thread I hadn't read that many books and had nothing to contribute. Now, after reading a lot of books, it's still almost impossible for me to add anything. Why? Because there are a lot of great Trek characters who haven't had much time in the spotlight. Looking at JD's list it's hard to come up with books for the main cast much less for the hundreds of excellent minor Trek characters. There are almost too many good characters in the Trek universe; practically a plethora, El Jefe.

My pie in the sky idea:

Star Trek: Spotlight on...

A monthly novella series focusing on a different mid-level or minor Trek character in each book.

Yeah, yeah, I know this would never fly. A Captain Kirk coloring book would sell a million more copies than a Harry Kim book written by Tolstoy's ghost, but a man can dream. This would be a series for the authors. For the times when they are struck by the Muse and come up with the perfect Mr. Homn story but have no place to sell it.
