If you could be a sidekick

Miss Chicken

Little three legged cat with attitude
Admiral
to any character from movies or literature who would you choose to be a sidekick to (and why)?

I'd like to have been Sherlock Holmes' sidekick. I have a bit of a weakness for intelligent, educated men. Of course, he would never actually have enough respect to have a woman as a sidekick, but it's a good dream.

I thought of Sherlock but I think I would feel too stupid beside him and as you said he has a problem with women.

So I decided on either Jonathan Creek or one of the Doctors (either the Patrick Troughton Doctor or the Peter Davison Doctor).

Jonathan could put up with most women including me.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Holmes had a problem with women in general. He was rather nice to his female clients like Miss Morstan, the lady Dr Watson married later (The Sign of the Four), or Miss Violet Smith (The Solitary Cyclist). Indubitably he was quite smitten with Irene Adler (A Scandal in Bohemia).
And of course he was devoted to HM Queen Victoria (the "VR" shot into his living room wall & several occasions where he received her personal thanks).

I'd be a sidekick of Methos (a 5000 year old immortal from the Highlander-series). Apart from being immortal he's just a guy - though an extremely intelligent one.
I've always considered brains the most sexy part of the male anatomy.

If he wasn't available, I'd propably pick Merlin.

I think that the quote that Holmes made

I would not tell them too much. Women are never to be entirely trusted—not the best of them

does suggest that he did have a problem with women and that he would never have one as a sidekick.

Methos would be interesting to know. He was one of the more interesting Immortals.

Or Hugh Fitzcairn, heehee. As his sidekick life'd never be boring!

I had completely forgotten about that Holmes statement. Good point, indeed. Though I am not sure if men can be entirely trusted, either.

If I had to teach Hugh Fitzcairn to use a computer I would end lopping his head off myself.

Hmmm.... I *would* say someone like Kirk or John Sheridan or Han Solo or Mal Reynolds, just so I could go into space, but they're always running around trying to get themselves and everyone around them killed, so....

Any cool people with a starship that *aren't* trying to blow up the galaxy?

Buck Rogers, perhaps?

Miss Kitten, I am not sure I get what problems do you expect Hugh to have with a computer. Do you mean he's not smart enough or just too chaotic?
He learned how to drive a car and how to use a phone when they were invented. I think he'd try computers as well. Especially if handsome women were involved ;)

Episode "Star Crossed".

Hugh and Duncan have to break into the school so that Duncan can finish editing Hugh's falsified credentials because Hugh does not know how to use a computer. Hugh had paid someone to do the job but that person had to leave the country before the job was done.

In the same episode it is plain that Duncan doesn't like the way Fitzcairn drives.

I must have missed that one on TV! Thank heavens all epis are on youtube. I'll close that gap in my education tonight :) Thanks for explaining!

I'm surprised nobody would like to be Jack Sparrow's sidekick. Admittedly, they have a tendency to get lost, imprisoned, killed or eaten by marine pests of all sizes, but on the other hand the man is fun.

I have all six seasons of Highlander on DVD and have seen each episode 2 or 3 times each.

If? I've either been a sidekick or a bit player or fifth wheel most of my life. I wouldn't dream about being anybody's "boy wonder" or Twiki.

There's no competition. It would have to be the Doctor.

The ability to travel through all of space and time having exciting adventures with a very minimal (compared to other sidekicks anyway) chance of death? Sign me up.

Xena seemed to have lots of fun. I'd go with her. :p

Riker is a good choice as well...
