Poll If this was the end, would you be satisfied?

The season 2 finale wrapped up a lot of loose ends. Almost all of them, in fact. And although Discovery is getting a third season and we're gonna explore the distant future of the Trekverse, I'm curious if you'd all have been satisfied if this was the show's conclusion?

Personally, I would be. If it ended now it would kinda remind me of Stargate Universe's finale, which left the crew in suspended animation... forever. I thought that was awesome. Discovery lives on in the future (and we know they're okay as per the seventh signal), the Enterprise goes on in the present and all is good with the universe.

It would, and wouldn't.

For me, it's kind of like asking what if Spock had stayed dead. It would have preserved the impact of TWOK. But I wanted more Spock.

I think if the series had not been renewed, it would be a splendid way to end the show. That said, I want to see where they go with it.

If it meant we wouldn't have to see a "fall of the Federation" or any of that crap? Then yeah, I would.

Honestly, I think they really did write it as a plausible SERIES finale in case it didn't get renewed, but with the possibility of seeing more. To me, the ending was almost more focused on the Enterprise, and Discovery's fate would've been the stuff of fan fiction forever. But I'm elated that we're getting more.

If it was series finale, it would work, except the last 5 min of "Pike series back-pilot" would not be looked at positively (it would smell a lot like of TATV where TNG hijacked the finale, and you NEVER want to be compared to TATV). Yeah, ending the series on "Now what?" would be kinda abrupt, but they did the same with Voyager, so it wouldn't be unprecedented.

No. Discovery would end up in the future, and I'd wondering what happened to it next. It's not good as a Finale. It does work as a stopping point for the season. And it does work to separate Early-DSC from what I assume will be Mid-DSC.

I'd rather have a series only end when every character's arc is concluded, either by getting to a satisfying point at their character development, leaving the setting on their separate ways, or simply getting killed. Plot-wise, it's a satisfying end, but the characters themselves still have their own stories to tell. The ending scenes on the Enterprise actually were a beautiful and heartwarming ending for me, and would've worked as a series finale if not for this fact. Seriously Spock seeing his new star on the horizon was actually a beautiful and hopeful ending, but still. You might end a series wondering what might have happened to one or two characters, but the entire main cast? No, I'll obviously want a proper conclusion for their arcs; don't leave me hanging. This is why I felt Babylon 5's fifth season wasn't as weak as the detractors claimed (despite its first half with the telepath crisis actually being that weak): most characters only got their proper sendoffs in Season 5, Londo and G'Kar being the most obvious.

To reiterate: character arcs are just as important for me as story arcs. They both need to be closed off for a series finale to work properly.

I voted Yes, as it does the job of wrapping things up (more or less).

As far as the timeline / era Discovery [the starship] inhabits up until the end of season 2, the loop is now closed - and I enjoyed seeing the ‘backdoor pilot for the Pike shoe’!

Off-topic whimsy: Having said that, I’m kinda jonesing and intrigued to see what this far-flung future will be like. I can’t deny that I would like to see some starfleet starships from this period (pending starfleet and the Federation exist - in some iteration).

Overall: I’m intrigued to see what the artists and designers of Discovery will come up with for this period, in terms of starships.

I’m a simple person, and all I ask is for some tall, long, well-designed starships and some stars to steer them by...

I feel no particular loyalty to any of the other Star Trek series coming up.

That would've been like telling me in the '90s: "DS9 doesn't need to run seven seasons, we'll have VOY and ENT."

We never had more than two concurrent Treks at any time. If Discovery gets season 4, we'll have Discovery, Picard, Section 31, Lower Decks and whatever else they are planning. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing. If they dilute the writing talent (such as it is), VFX budget, between all shows, all of the shows will suffer. I'd rather have fewer good shows, getting full attention of the showrunners, rather than more more more Trek, which may or may not necessarily be that good.

Lower Decks --> I don't give a shit.
Picard --> I don't know. I'm curious. I might like it, I might not.
Section 31 --> I'm looking forward to it but if you put a gun to my head and forced me to choose, I'd choose DSC.
Discovery --> It's already on, I already like it.

Plus, from what I understand, Lower Decks is supposed to be a comedy. It's nothing like Discovery. Section 31, I don't know. I'm going to assume they'll be telling different types of stories from Discovery and Picard.

How could adding a Trek or two dilute the talent in a world where there as many as a hundred decent scifi shows being written every year. How would we be at peak TV is there was possibly a lack of good writers available? When has there been any indication that the Star Trek shows on CBSAA have to share a limited budget? There is no such thing as too much of a good thing, IMO. It means I can watch things to my limit and not ever have to watch stuff I consider meh.
