If they had 2 travel in time again, where'd you have wanted them 2 Go?

Re: If they had 2 travel in time again, where'd you have wanted them 2

I like how my herpes generates heat at night.

I don't have to bother with a hot water bottle.

Yes it's always good to come back to the BBS in the morning and see lots of replies.

It's like you're a monkey at a typewriter hammering away for a million years and you almost got, almost, almost got a word perfect script of Apocalypse Now at hand.

Paw?

Hand.

One of my favourite lines from TV.

Titus: "Have you met my brother Dave? I'm not saying he's an idiot, but if you sat him in front of a typewriter for a million years, he'd write "dave"."

Re: If they had 2 travel in time again, where'd you have wanted them 2

Have any of you heard the rifftrax commentary for STXI? "Blessed be Billy, smooth baby head." Cracks me up just thinking about it.

Back on topic, I'd put them into the far future, after the federation turned into a corrupt dictatorship and wars wiped out most of the alpha quadrant species.

Re: If they had 2 travel in time again, where'd you have wanted them 2

So, basically a crossover of with the well documetedly corrupt Terran Federation of Blakes Seven?

it's like they were asking for a lawsuit. :)

And no, I haven't heard that particular rifftrax.

I really should give those guys more of a chance.

Re: If they had 2 travel in time again, where'd you have wanted them 2

I've never seen Blake's 7. Is it worth watching?

Some rifftrax are better than others, the one for STXI is one of the funnier ones IMO.

Re: If they had 2 travel in time again, where'd you have wanted them 2

That's a tough call to make.

If you have the stomach for Seventies English Science Fiction, it's well worth the experience.

However, if classic doctor Who makes blood creep out of your ears, you might want to pretend it doesn't exist.

Plot?

fallen, broken, brainwashed political freedom fighter is sent to jail for a crime he didn't commit (kiddy fiddling). Half way to the penal colony, the barge carrying the a chain gang of convicts, runs arye of a massive adrift crewless war ship of unknown design and origin... Long story short (too late) the prisoners revolt, take over the war ship and decide to free the galaxy from the thrall of the evil Terran Federation. No shit "The Federation" are the baddies and all the stormtroopers are wearing those same alpha shaped arrow head sigils just like Kirk did about ten years earlier over their left breast.

4 seaosns of 13 episodes.

You could tuck that under your belt in a single week end.

So the grab is that these "hippies" have the most powerful and fastest war ship in the galaxy, as well as transporter technology which Earth never quite figured out, so they have an extreme tactical advantage compared to the thousands of warships and billions of soldiers they're locking horns with... Which is kinda the situation Voyager was supposed to be in during season one.

Why "a girl" would want to watch?

The villain.

The president of the federation is so evil and beautiful and as she's ordering people to their death she's draped in the most ultrapostmodern exquisite fashion... Like a cross between Jackie Onasis and Hitler. Sometimes you have to laugh but it's always couture. My gods, some of the hats she wore would give sally fields a run (flight) for her money.

Strong female role-models.

(if evil is you bag.)

Here is the dialogue/scene which draws me in every time

Avon "I am the galaxies greatest criminal computer genius, I almost stole a billion credits form the Federation bank."

Villa "Almost? I don't see why you think that you're Mr Wonderful? The way I see it, you're in deep space on a prison barge bound for a penal colony just like every one else here, so you're really no better than any of us, are you?"

Avon 'Why am I better than you? I only made one mistake. Just one."

Villa ":And what was that?"

Avon "I trusted other people."

...

Seriously. I have seen heated barbet-arguments when lads a have argued to some success that this "Avon" person can beat Batman in a fair fight. After a couple episodes you really begin to acclimatize to the obviously 70s attributes and just enjoy the action and the drama.

Look, I have to say I actually rather loved Blake's 7 although I've never forgiven the BBC for killing them all off in the last episode (spoiler -sorry). I'm dying for them to do a remake of the series one day. I'm also dying for a remake of The Greatest American Hero (yes, I'm a nerd AND a dork).

Re: any era for the Voyager crew to travel to? Hmm, yes, I think the far future. How about the Federation. Year 3000. The human race is on the verge of extinction so the Voyager crew have to donate their dna to keep the species alive. That'll do for a simple plot. Add a little humour and pathos and we might have something!

So the new Star Trek series is:

Star Trek: Federation 3000

It's got quite a ring to it. Ring Paramount.

Re: If they had 2 travel in time again, where'd you have wanted them 2

They did remake Blakes 7.

A trilogy of audio book/radio plays were released some years ago with a younger cast (the same age as they were in the 70s, but "now") and slightly different technology and politics. It was really quite well put together.

On 11 December 2006, B7 Productions announced that it had recorded a series of 36 five-minute Blake's 7 audio adventures written by Ben Aaronovitch, Marc Platt and James Swallow.[63] The series featured Derek Riddell as Blake, Colin Salmon as Avon, Daniela Nardini as Servalan, Craig Kelly as Travis, Carrie Dobro as Jenna, Dean Harris as Vila, Owen Aaronovitch as Gan, Michael Praed, Doug Bradley and India Fisher.[64] The new series was broadcast on BBC Radio 7 and repeated in mid 2010 as three hour-long episodes; Rebel (written by Ben Aaronovitch), Traitor (Marc Platt) and Liberator (James Swallow). B7 Productions also produced series of 30 minute prequel audio episodes called Blake's 7: The Early Years, in which the histories of the central characters were explored.[65]

Re: If they had 2 travel in time again, where'd you have wanted them 2

Darrell Pitt I sincerely hope that was a joke and not an actual spoiler. We do have spoiler tags on this BBS which you should use, especially in a thread where someone states they haven't seen it. For the tag hit the "Go Advanced" button and then the spoiler tag symbol, the closed mouth smiley at the top.

I hope I've made an idiot of myself with this little lecture and you were in fact joking.

Re: If they had 2 travel in time again, where'd you have wanted them 2

He totally spoiled the last episode.

I was 4 when I saw it.

Totally fucked me up for life.

I had no idea that TV was capable of doing that to me emotionally.

I was four.

I didn't know that those emotions existed.

My parents divorce was less traumatising.

Re: If they had 2 travel in time again, where'd you have wanted them 2

You kiss your mammy with that mouth?

Re: If they had 2 travel in time again, where'd you have wanted them 2

I love wedding food.

Even if it's bad, there are so many courses.

Re: If they had 2 travel in time again, where'd you have wanted them 2

It's disgusting.

The worst one I ever went to was in some awful baptist church hall, the whole thing was lined with old yellow linoleum. We were served canned asparagus wrapped in triangles of white bread as the appetizers. The main meal was tuna piped into rock hard vol au vents and a completely tasteless soup that had been watered down. Drinks were orange cordial in plastic cups, the kind of cordial that stains the cups because there is so much dye in it. I can't remember dessert, I am sure it was horrible.

That one was at least so bad it was funny. Every other wedding I've been to has had torturous hours between tiny airplane meal courses in some cavernous reception center.

Re: If they had 2 travel in time again, where'd you have wanted them 2

The wedding with the asparagus... Are they still together?

You have to wonder if there is some sort of causequential faithlessness that draws a delineating portent between cheep weddings and bad marriages?

Of course if they were skimping on the wedding to buy a better honeymoon that just throws every thing out of whack.

What's wrong Teacake?

Or worse yet... What's right?

Re: If they had 2 travel in time again, where'd you have wanted them 2

Sorry, I actually missed the posting above where someone stated they hadn't seen the series.

Thanks for the info about the spoiler tag. Although, I've always felt that there was more to the ending than met the eye. The cast did actually want to come back for more episodes - in fact I think this almost became a reality a few times - but it finally never eventuated.

Still, they brought back Dr Who...

Re: If they had 2 travel in time again, where'd you have wanted them 2

I've been trying to remember their last name recently, to FB stalk them. I am sure they are still together, she only cared about the house and he had this utterly limp personality that would have stayed anywhere as long there was a couch.

I was going to write about their honeymoon but I thought it might be crass.. but since you have asked I suppose I must divulge it. They were both devout virgins. They did not leave for the honeymoon until midnight (wedding was in the afternoon), in fact they were nearly the last ones to leave the reception. He had a terrible migraine by the time they got in the car and looked like he was going to vomit. They had a 2 hour drive ahead of them to a stinking mud flat of an island that for some reason people like to visit, to spend 3 days in a motel. It really was a complete package of horror, Toni Collette should have starred in it.

The husband btw was a gunzel.

So uhh.. how about that Star Trek?

Re: If they had 2 travel in time again, where'd you have wanted them 2

Darrel, I was trying to sell Blakes Seven to (I assume, sorry SLD, but you're an enigma.) an American.

Trainspotting.

Hell.

That's real?

Fuck.

I always just assumed that that was a clever excuse for leering at schoolgirls?

But yes.

Star trek.

How 'bout them klingons?

Re: If they had 2 travel in time again, where'd you have wanted them 2

I went to a convention once years ago, the old Multi-Verse. There was a man cosplaying in Jadzia's red wedding dress. See how everything is just as much about the map as the territory.

Re: If they had 2 travel in time again, where'd you have wanted them 2

Oh, yes. The Klingons.

What did Chekov say in ST6 - Guess who's coming to dinner?
