There's not one poster in this forum who believes either of them for a minute.

My guess is that the next time we see a "Star Trek" production for television it'll be animated. That approach enables CBS Paramount to exploit the popularity of the film series with minimal development or financial risk (relative, that is, to what a live-action series or miniseries would involve).

At this point, I think an animated series developed by inspired folks (think along the lines of Bruce Timm's DC Universe shows) would probably be the freshest and most promising way of bringing Trek back to television.

I agree. I think, in fact, that the proposed post-TNG animated series sounded quite promising, although the tendency to do the "destroy a planet" bit is becoming sort of a hackneyed plot hook recently in Sci-Fi. Destroying Andor really won't have an emotional impact on the non-long-time-Trekkies, but it does destroy a rich fictional culture with a lot of storytelling opportunities.

Other than that, though, I really liked the proposal I read. I'd love to see it become reality (in a "Clone-Wars" style format or like the DC cartoons done recently).

Any new series in animation should probably utilize all-new characters, because it is tough to get a good enough likeness of known characters to satisfy fans.

But with movies like Beowulf coming out now, I'm sure it could be done convincingly, just don't know about the cost.

Personally I can't see a series emerging from the film. I mean, would they use the same actors from XI ? Unlikely, but then again maybe that's why there's no big names in the main cast.... hmmm....
Anyone got a copy of their contracts?

I have no qualms at all about the next series being animated. That allows the writers all kinds of room for exploring various aliens, locations, characters, eras, etc. I would hope they would use the same approach as was used for Batman: The Animated Series and Gargoyles. These were shows that appealed to various age groups and allowed for a great deal of marketing.
