If Paramount+ Put You in Charge Of Trek, Where Would You Take It?

I would also continue on the Kelvin films, probably Sulu overseeing the USS EXCELSIOR, or a space station show with Commodore Kirk.

Would also pursue a good video game.

I wouldn't want the job, as the fandom and press would make it thankless.

Minus that, I'd just cold boot the thing and start over from the basic premise… maybe with some a few of the original characters, but if so, they'd be complete rethinks.

I hate the transporter and the replicators and all the bogus "make it from both nothing" nonsense on the show, so if a transporter, all it would do is pucker space and pop you through to/from a destination. No medically ignorant use of DNA. No aliens you can breed with.

Clean start on basically everything, from the planets and alien races on down the line. It's 1966 all over again, blank slate, with modern writing and modern cinematics.

I feel like if you're changing everything but the basic premise, you might as well change the name as well and have complete freedom to do your own thing.

Of course that rarely happens, because the IPs are what gets people interested in the project. People's original pitches get reworked into remakes and adaptations, and we end up with yet another story that barely resembles what it's advertised to be. It's depressing.

I've always been intrigued by the idea that the Blish novelizations seemed to be pushing toward that most of the humanoid aliens we see in Star Trek were basically human. That there was an initial era of space colonization using relativistic engines and sleeper ships, and that the era of the warp-propelled starship that the Enterprise was part of took place centuries later, uniting all of the growth from those "space seeds" for the first time.

If I got to blank slate start over, that would probably be where I would go with it, and people would hate me for it, lol.

I would work from the novels. A lot of them have better stories than the TV shows.

Star Trek Harbinger would make a great show for the 23rd century
Articles of the Federation for the 24th century

After a two-year break, the next Trek series would be a total reboot with different takes on Kirk and the gang (one or two characters may even be gender-swapped). There would also be different approaches to Starfleet, the Enterprise, and even the 5-year mission.

So, basically, continue on with what they are doing. A semi-soft reboot. Continue the direction set by SNW.

I'm fine with that.

I found JMS reboot idea interesting. Reset TOS. Hit the high points. Connect the godlike aliens/Guardian of Forever into an interconnect ancient civilizations.

Honestly, though, I've felt the universe was fine. Want to do a "prequel" of sorts? Fine. Set it on a different ship like Star Trek Farragut fan series did. Galaxy is a big place. Starfleet is a big organization. Go follow the adventures of another crew in a different sector. Go do your own thing. Easy to not contradict continuity when you really do your own thing.

Exactly so.

Mostly because anything new is declared to be disrespecting the past. Well, fuck that noise and I'll be happy to take the base premise from 1966 and roll Tide.

The past remains respected, venerated even, in a museum, and the new stuff gets to go forward.

I'm genuinely saddened to see how almost everyone here just wants to do Kirk, Spock or DS9 again, either as a reboot, or just new stories with exactly these old characters (& really old actors).

I'm not sure if I can blame the nuTrek writers for stupidly doing this on every show, if literally every fan idea is just the same thing as well...

Just reboot it at this stage. Have a series that mixes the best of TOS and the TNG era that isn't beholden to canon or has to rely on nostalgia, Kirk, Spock, Enterprises etc. etc. and have new characters, a new ship and a new status quo. They've tried everything else at this stage so if this experiment fails they can return to the sacred "Prime Timeline" and milk nostalgia and memberberries some more.

If we're getting a reboot, we're just getting Kirk, Spock & enterprise again. For the 4th time in a row.
That's somehow even worse than following legacy characters like Seven or Neelix into new shows...

Personally, I like the complicated fabric that’s been woven together from sixty years of stuff, inconsistencies and all, and would rather see it go for another sixty, though I realize that isn’t likely.

And while I very much enjoy almost everything JMS does, his version of Trek kinda felt like it was missing the point of the franchise; I liked it much better when it was called Crusade, and I wish that had continued.

Because I'm so tired of the canon police over every little thing..I'm tired of writers being called lazy and stupid for missing out on some technical minutia that fans insist is important and must be accurate.

Oh I would go crazy.

2 more Section 31 films leading in to a Captain Garrett show.
Star Trek: United
Un-cancel Lower Decks, SNW, Discovery and keep Academy going.
Live action New Frontiers show but tweaked in setting a little starting a few years before the Dominion War so that the Captain Shelby of the Sutherland is our Shelby. Henry Cavill can play Calhoun.
Live action Sonya Gomez show on the USS da Vinci.
Anthology shows during the Cardassian, Tzenkethi, Dominion and Temporal Wars. Anthology show of the Doctor showing all the lifetimes he led leading up to Academy.
Live action shows for my Star Trek Online characters.
More video game adaptations like Resurgence, Elite Force and Legacy.
A Dax film showing Ezri becoming captain of the Aventine.
Animated revival of Enterprise.
Untold stories of the TOS crew with the SNW cast to give them better development of context for the later movies.

There'll have to be a fair bit of recasting and animation here and there unless I can in fact change the laws of physics.

Oh and I would strike away Picard season 3 and Prodigy to have elements retooled.
