If Mr. Sulu ever come to SNW, how to make him Interesting

Maybe show M'Benga screwing up something royally, and being demoted, and Piper come in to be CMO and him as a regular doctor? Maybe skip over him and just have McCoy. Maybe he was on leave in WNMHGB.

I can see M'benga leaving and Piper taking over. No idea why he would leave and return to a more junior position.

Oh, I'm sure we'll get McCoy early in season five at the latest.
At this point I kinda hope we do, yeah. Their track record with reintroducing these legacy characters has been spotless so far. So I would definitely be down to find out what ideas they have for McCoy.

I know this would never happen in a million years, but I would just love it if they got Karl Urban to reprise the role, as I thought he was probably the best cast character in the Abrams movies. Well, him and Anton Yelchin, actually.

Like I'm almost certain we'll see Dr. Korby before he goes missing.
I’m looking forward to see how they will do Korby. His character in “What Are Little Girls Made Of” struck me as a rather bland egghead type, so he feels more like a blank canvas to fill with something a little more interesting. Perhaps someone who’s Spock’s intellectual equal, but who knows how to let himself go and have some fun once in a while would be cool.

As for why M’Benga eventually steps down as the ship’s CMO: I suspect the whole point of establishing his PTSD and somewhat wonky morals was to have a baked in reason for why he wouldn’t continue in the position indefinitely. I love M’Benga as a character, but they do go out of their way to portray him as a deeply troubled and unstable individual on a number of occasions. I have no idea where exactly they want to go with the character, but I wouldn’t be surprised if at some point (maybe in the last season) they have him face his psychological problems and decide to step down.

To me, Sulu was always an interesting character but the real issue was that the focus in TOS was always on Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. SNW is a different beast in that it's truly an ensemble show that shifts its focus around. It's not always centered on just two or three primary characters. If Sulu comes onto SNW, I'm sure he'll get more character development & interaction with other characters than he did during TOS and even the Kelvin Timeline movies.

That being said, I'm also in the camp that doesn't see Sulu joining SNW as a regular, at least not yet anyway. I dunno, I always figured Sulu didn't really join the Enterprise until Kirk took over or towards the very end of Pike's tenure.

Final season, whenever that'll be. I do think at some point we're going to start seeing the Enterprise transition from Pike's crew to Kirk's, but it really shouldn't be until the end of the series, IMO.

Any amount of money, against it.

It might work if the producers take a cue from the novel "Shadows on the Sun" and have Jocelyn McCoy being part of a larger Starfleet/Federation diplomatic mission along with her second husband Clayton Treadway and mention in passing that she joined the diplomatic corps after separating from her first husband who was a doctor.

Alternatively, since Strange New Worlds is currently set in 2259, have the Enterprise along with Carter Winston, respond to a famine/crop failure on the planet Ceberus and one of the families they rescue is Jocelyn and a young Joanna McCoy - which would tie it in with the Animated Series episode "The Survivor".

I asked because it seemed to me to be a very now Trek thing to do - show us the other side of the story first (chronologically) and then if you watch TOS after, you see McCoy through her eyes (perhaps not flatteringly).

All this talk about bringing back Sulu and Chekov. There are characters like Lee Kelso and Gary Mitchell to consider as well. McCoy could be brought in as a staff doctor, or maybe a doctor from the Farragut that Kirk ends up bringing with him to his new command eventually replacing the retiring Piper? Gary Mitchell would be interesting to me.

FWIW I love that they brought back Uhura, Chapel, M'Benga, and Spock and Pike. And Scotty now too. But bringing them all back may be a bit of overkill. But there may be a character or two like Dr Piper, Lee Kelso and Gary Mitchell to flesh out a bit?

It would need to be a ‘Lost Era’show but I still think there’s one last adventure for George Takei’s Sulu

But there may be a character or two like Dr Piper, Lee Kelso and Gary Mitchell to flesh out a bit?
Gary Mitchell might appear on the show, given his close friendship with Kirk, but I'm not holding my breath. Dr. Piper and Lee Kelso will never be on this show.

I started to see SNW bringing in TOS characters similar to how Smallville introduced characters important to Superman's adult life (Perry White, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olson, etc). Some became series regulars, others the occasional guest spot, but for the finale they were all in place. I'd imagine we'll get Sulu, along with McCoy and Chekov to fill out the rest of the TOS cast in a similar manner before the series ends.

Sulu will be interesting by virtue of being the most interesting of the two Asian guys in the whole franchise, with Harry Kim being the competition :guffaw:
