If Lucas authorized another 3, which Eu should it be based on?

My son who is 8 asked me this question and I know next to nothing about the EU. But if Lucas were to make another trilogy based after RotJ and it had no human actors in it that were in the origional series what EU books would be a great place to start from.

I suppose he thinks it could have C3-PO and R2-D2 as the continuing element.

The Thrawn trilogy is the most logical choice. They're still the best books in the whole of the EU. (which is sad since they were the first)

Well, I'd prefer it if a new trilogy ignored the loads of EU material out there allowing Lucas to create an original approach to the Star Wars future. But I guess if he had to pick some point in time in the EU then I'd like to see the Legacy era on film. I think that story comes closest in furthering the Skywalker saga and has a lot of things that I would love to see on screen, such as all the Sith lords, Imperial Knights, etc.

I'm not sure. I've about given up on the EU because everything I read is little more than fanwank. It makes the already small universe even smaller because not one adventure goes by without Boba Fett (what is he now, like 70?) and a bunch of the aging characters run around like they're still in their 20s and 30s. Not to mention I don't know how many Death Star-doomsday device ripoffs they've encountered.

If they were going to make a sequel trilogy, I suppose a reworking of the Jedi Academy might be cool, with Luke being the Obi-Wan sage and one of the pupils turning to the Dark Side (preferably a Skywalker). I know I complained about fanwank, but I think it'd be cool to continue the Kamino clone aspect and have Emperor Palpatine have a clone (so you could also have returning actors like Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman fighting alongside Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher). Some galaxy-spanning threat that brings the prequels and the originals together for a badass finale.

That could be interesting idea, but they look nothing like their roles anymore, and setting the movie only a few years after RotJ may cause other concerns. But it sounds interesting.

I agree, not to mention Mara Jade, Adm. Thrawn, Talon Karde & the Bothan Senator all became popular and recognizable characters to many SW fans after these books were published. Many of them who went on to have other stories written about them.

Thrawn Trilogy MINUS Joruuuuuuuus C'boath and Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuke. They were just silly in an otherwise perfect story. Maybe they could hybridize stories. Instead of C'boath as the Dark Side baddie have Jacen going evil and joining Thrawn? Or even just a Kyp Durron type story, just one of the students who gets power hungry. Though personally I'd rather see what Lucas came up with on his own (as long he gets someone else to write the dialogue!).

Don't care, the last three moveis were such a dissapointment that if lucas did anounce a new trilogy I wouldn't care in the least! just goes to show lucas is a terrible writer & director. (sad thing is people will still pay money to see this crap becouse it has star wars in the title)

I don't necessarily think they'd work as mainstream sequels, but I was always a big fan of the X-Wing series. That and the Han Solo trilogy were pretty much the only ones that didn't seem to be rehashing the same old story. An X-Wing based series like Clone Wars would be pretty cool, although I won't hold out for a feature film.

Even if it doesn't really connect to the movies so far I would love to have a new trilogy of films set during the KOTOR era.
Not necessarily the Revan story.
Maybe we could witness the origin of the prophecy about the One to link it to the Skywalkers.

I just think that he should come up with a general story outline, hand that to some talented writing staff and let them come up with the script, let a trusted director direct it.

I dont think he should be more personaly involved then cashing the checks.

Book to screenplay always gets changed, so I don't see why they couldn't tweak the Jorus & Luke story. However, you have to included them to keep Mara Jade in the story.

KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC

A better Star Wars story than anything the prequels came out with.

QFT. To quote Game Informer Magazine "Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic got right what George Lucas and The Prequel Trilogy got wrong." It's the true heir to The Original Trilogy. Don't let anyone tell you any different. I can just imagine a scene where Canderous unties all the scattered Mandalorian clans and leads them into battle to save the day at The Battle of The Star Forge. Oh, I'm nerdgasming just thinking about it.

But there's a hell of a backstory to get through though. Which could be a problem. And they'd probably go with a male lead, much to the anger of female Carth fans. Which wouldn't bother me. I always preferred Bastilla as a love interest. It was how Padme and Anikain should have been written IMO. The end battle has more emotional impact if she's your girlfriend rather then just some annoying, preachy chick you have to put up with. Carth was too whinney IMO. He was so whinney infact they made jokes about it in the second game. Never a good sign. And Kate Beckinsale or Rachel Weiz as Bastilla = Win.

If they let Drew Karpshyn and Bioware write and produce it, it will be a classic. Those guys have the best story-crafting minds and attention to narrative I've ever seen. Just look at Jade Empire and Mass Effect. If Lucas does it, he will ruin it like he ruins everything else. He'll probably make HK-47 cute and loveable. He'll accidentally trip on a banana peel and slide into the Star Forge self-destruct button. After saving the day he'll say something funny and cute like "Statement: I wasn't going to let The Sith SLIDE OUT from under us again. Ta da!". *Shudder*

If they do a Thrawn Trilogy they'd have to recast. And there's a lot of stuff in the book that just wouldn't traslate well to live action, like Thrawn studying a cultures art to learn about their military mindset. And they'd have to hook up Mara Jade and Luke during the films, because it's a movie after all.

I'd love to see the Dark Empire stories, though they have the same actor-age problems as the Thrawn trilogy.

I'd settle for an animated trilogy or something of the DE stories if nothing else.
