Note: This is not a poll to determine whether LD should do a serious scene or episode. I admit, they probably won't, although I hope they do. (I mean, we've seen live-action Trek do comedy...so shouldn't the reverse also apply? ;) )

In any case, i'm curious as to, IF LD tries to go that route, how they'd go about it...keep the animation, or temporarily shift to live action for the duration of that scene. What say you?

I'm not sure I follow that logic. Unlike the other shows, Lower Decks is a sitcom, whether it's animated or not is immaterial.

That said, there are sitcoms which do have serious moments. But they don't change their style of production just because they turn serious, unless there's an artistic reason behind it. So it all comes down to, is there an artistic reason to turn Lower Decks temporarily live action?

I guess I need to re-evaluate what I consider a "serious" scene. :(

That said, I agree, whatever the tone of any given scene, LD should stick to animation. If there's any live action involved, it should be a flashback done in another series, like PIC or DSC (or a Short Trek).

They've done tons of serious scenes, at least one per episode. This isn't wall-to-wall comedy or parody, the show has pathos, drama, character evolution or at least interaction that doesn't hinge on a joke or series of jokes.

I maintain the only time they should switch to live action is when they're in a subspace phenomenon that puts them in the third dimension.

:)

They should probably appear in live-action during the likely New Trek crossover they have planned for a couple years from now.

I also want subtle nods in other shows, like Jerry O'Connell showing up as Admiral Ransom in Picard Season 3.

They've had serious scenes, and shifting to live action would be jarring. I don't understand what one has to do with the other. Short Treks did live action comedy.

But more importantly, I think it would be absolutely hilarious if any of the LDs characters did crossover appearances in Picard. I would go buck wild over that.
